The end of an era - what a privilege it has been to be even a small part of the UKICE journey. It will remain a hugely valuable resource, capturing such a significant period of time for the UK & EU. We are all indebted to @anandmenon.bsky.social and the UKICE team for what they achieved with this

The three main unionist parties in Northern Ireland have backed a motion of no confidence in First Minister Michelle O'Neill

Our conclusion highlights the importance of looking beyond politics and electoral data in understanding the nuances of identity in Northern Ireland, and the role that Brexit played in demonstrating this.

DUP leader Gavin Robinson said it cannot be 'business as normal' at Stormont following alleged 'law breaking' by Sinn Féin ministers

That said, it's hard not to agree that this will now be an election about Drumcree more than it will be about 'bread and butter' issues - the latter, I think, will be more significant re transfers. That is definitely preferable for some parties given what this mandate has delivered

@clarerice.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 8:35 PM

Younger generations with no living memory of Drumcree, people who don't identify as either unionist or nationalist, people who just want the rot of public services to stop.... Times, slowly, are changing in NI. It is increasingly necessary to consider the who, how, and why of what "whips up people"

For anyone concerned about the degradation of healthcare in NI, this is an important story to follow. The knock-on consequences of removing maternity services from Daisy Hill will be felt not just at Craigavon, but in other health trusts as well - all already creaking under their own pressures

Richard Martin on the clash of interests at issue at Drumcree. For deep understanding, stop reading other analyses and sit down with this. For me, a coda on the "heckler's veto" point is that this works differently (Art 8) if people are on their own street:
