Bags packed, goodbyes said and everyone is starting their journeys home. Thank you again to all our participants, the National Holocaust Museum, special guests online, and the Alfred Landecker Foundation for making the week possible. Shana Tova, and safe travels to everyone.

Later, the prototypes started taking shape at the National Holocaust Museum. Nothing is ready yet, and that’s exactly the point. Prototyping gives us something visible that we can question, test and improve.

Today was all about translating ideas into actual things. We started by reviewing yesterday’s solution sketches. There were plenty of strong possibilities, so the challenge was deciding which elements could come together to form clear, shared concepts.

The tables are filling up with notes drawings, and sticky notes, and the ideas are beginning to move from “What if?” to “This might actually work…”

After mapping possible user journeys, we moved on to the design principles and pedagogical values that should guide our ideas. Then came the sketching: quick exercises, lots of possibilities and no pressure to make anything look ready yet.

Day 2: Today we’ve been thinking about audiences, values and what it really means to work “interspatially”. We began by exploring some of the National Holocaust Museum’s "ecosystems" and discussing the opportunities and challenges of connecting histories across different places.

After sharing ideas, defining questions and exploring the National Holocaust Museum, we asked our participants to sum up the first day of the design sprint. Here’s what some of them said.

This afternoon, we left the workshop room to explore the National Holocaust Museum and its grounds. We finished with an introduction to the museum's collections with Jasmine Margalit and some reflection time in the memorial gardens. A very full first day—and we’re only just getting started.

@ldml.bsky.socialSep 7, 2026, 6:27 PM

First day of our design sprint at the National Holocaust Museum. Professor Maiken Umbach and Professor Victoria Grace Richardson-Walden started the day by introducing the museum and the design sprint. Then we heard position statements from each participant.

And we’re off again! Today, our participants are arriving in Nottingham ahead of our next design sprint with the National Holocaust Museum. Tonight, we’re starting with dinner, introductions and the first conversations of the week. Tomorrow, the real work begins at the National Holocaust Museum.

Now it’s time for us to leave Babelsberg. A huge thank you to Prof. Dr. Björn Stockleben and his team for the support, and to everyone who made this week possible.

Five days, many hand-drawings and hands-on buildings, several prototypes—and a lot of ideas to take home. This morning, the teams presented what they created during an intense week of storytelling, experimenting, testing and rethinking.

@ldml.bsky.socialSep 3, 2026, 1:34 PM

After plenty of thoughtful feedback, it was back to editing, refining and preparing for tomorrow’s final presentations. One more day to go!

@ldml.bsky.socialSep 3, 2026, 1:34 PM

Today, the teams presented their ideas to Karen Jungblut and the other teams for the first time. Some things worked exactly as planned. Others gave us something new to work on.

@ldml.bsky.socialSep 2, 2026, 1:59 PM

There were sticky notes and hand drawings everywhere, lots of problem-solving and numerous ideas exchanged. Still a work in progress, but beyond an idea.
