๐ฅ The EU KIDS Act is here.
The Commission proposes no social media accounts under 13, supervised accounts for 13โ15, and autonomous accounts from 15, alongside stronger safety, privacy-preserving age assurance, and new obligations for large platforms.

The leaked KIDS Act makes child-safe settings the default until a service accepts you as an adult. Against our 12 design fixes: 10 delivered, 1 absent, 1 deflected. The exception? Variable rewards are banned around social media, but not directly in games.

๐ฅ Netherlands & Spain back an EU-wide minimum age for social media, with proportionate, risk-based and privacy-friendly age verification.
They stress that age limits must be part of a broader child-safety framework.
A report that goes nowhere, a feed built for metrics, a companion built to be missed. Three features that decide whether a child is served or simply held. A ban solves none of them. A plan builds a system that answers to the child, and lets them be heard.

Three features decide who can find, watch, and reach a child. A ban leaves them as they are. A plan keeps them safe and private, while letting them choose who gets closer.

The streak, the profile built to sell, the box you pay to open. Three ways to run a child through the same till, paid in stress, data and cash. A ban leaves the till running. A plan keeps a child off the bottom line.

The endless feed, autoplay video, and return driven notifications all serve one goal: keeping a child engaged by removing the stopping point. A ban leaves all three untouched. The fix is to switch them off by default, not to switch off the child.

France's Constitutional Court struck down the under 15 social media ban on 14 August. It faulted a law that targeted users' age when the harm comes from features. Later, Meta agreed to change those features rather than simply bar users by age.
