Stellenbosch University Museum liet allerlei medewerkers van de universiteit hun favoriete kunstwerk uitkiezen en toelichten. Zo'n goed idee en zo goed uitgevoerd, met ook felle kritiek op de universiteit.

Observe Stellenbosch University through a childlike, innocent lens, and be fooled. Marvel at its grand celebrations, and be deceived. There is more to the proudly displayed gees than meets the eye. A continuous association between the University and ubuntu is farfetched and belittling. Ubuntu is not just the slogan I am because we are"; it is a way of being - altruism, compassion, generosity, humaneness and magnanimity. In the University's culture, lexperienced a series of awakenings. I used to lead an intervention programme that supported disadvantaged learners from neighbouring high schools, and I witnessed its demise. "Lack of funding was the reason given to the public; "lack of reciprocity' was what was discussed in the corridors. The reality was that restrictive language policies further disadvantaged the already disadvantaged. Learners benefiting from the programme unwillingly enrolled at other institutions far from home. They chose to sacrifice valuable study hours for their commute. I ask, somewhat sarcastically: Who willingly chooses hardship? With the programme's collapse, a part of me died. Rooted in faith, I persevered, believing in an eventual change. I deliberately joined the Student Affairs Transformation Committee and intentionally contributed to a new Transformation Charter. Committing to the Institutional Culture workstream of CIRCoRE (the Committee for the Institutional Response to the Khampepe Commission's Recommendations) seemed like another opportunity for meaningful transformation. CIRCORE's rapid collapse was bewildering. Feeling deceived again, I died a second death. Yet I refuse to die before my actual death. Like the awakened beauty in Corneille's painting, I rise again - alert, aware and quick-witted. I am awakened by the white bird, the messenger of freedom. I am reminded that this may not merely be a perceptible struggle, but a spiritual one. The sun, symbolising the cultural identity and ancestral heritage of my forebears, calls out insistently: You have been captive for too long. It is time to awaken.'

@tedcurran Very good. I stopped using Reddit back when they killed all third-party apps for it, and haven't looked back.

I do miss some of the more niche communities on Lemmy (or rather Mbin), but I'm trying to be the change I want to see in the world and post in smaller communities whenever I can.
