In an endless cycle of bad news, there's always some good news!
This time it's California, where @governor.ca.gov just signed 10 new gun safety bills into law.

Led by youth. Built for change. Working to end gun violence.
The United States has more guns in civilian hands than every military in the world combined.
The 13 people murdered at Fort Hood deserved to live, and their families deserve justice. But justice should never be confused with spectacle. Livestreaming an execution risks sensationalizing violence rather than honoring those whose lives were taken. Death should not be a public broadcast.
We refuse to stay silent while politicians and their gun lobby allies roll back lifesaving protections for women and survivors. Protecting women means disarming abusers. Period.
For years, opposition has stalled and targeted key provisions of the Violence Against Women Act: measures to close the “boyfriend loophole,” restrict access for convicted stalkers, and keep guns away from abusers subject to temporary protective orders.
Keeping firearms out of the hands of convicted domestic abusers and people under active restraining orders reduces intimate partner homicides. But those protections are under attack.
This is a national crisis, and it hits women of color hardest. Black women are killed in firearm intimate partner homicides at 3.5x the rate of white women. For American Indian and Alaska Native women, it’s twice the rate.
When an abusive intimate partner has access to a gun, a woman is 5x more likely to be killed. Guns don’t just escalate domestic violence, they make it lethal. A domestic assault involving a firearm is 12x more likely to end in death than one involving other weapons or physical force.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It’s a time to reflect, raise awareness, and push for real solutions that protect survivors, because we can’t talk about ending gun violence in America without talking about violence against women.
California already has the lowest gun death rate in its recorded history. That's what happens when a state treats gun violence like the solvable problem it is, year after year.
One bill goes at 3D printed guns from the printer side, screening the design file and refusing the job. It's a framework more than a mandate right now, since the requirement is conditional on an industry standard that doesn't exist yet, but it's the right place to intervene.
The reforms go after the whole lifecycle of this crisis: keeping firearms away from people who pose a risk, closing the gaps that let unserialized and illegally modified weapons through, and funding the community programs that interrupt violence before it starts.
In an endless cycle of bad news, there's always some good news!

Every mile we run is for the people we've lost and the future we're building. We're running to bring that 62 down 💙🧡

March For Our Lives was born from tragedy and built on hope. When you support our team, you're helping fuel our campaigns, train the next generation of organizers, and shift the culture that keeps communities unsafe.
Some of us are running for family lost to gun violence. Some of us survived shootings at our schools, or watched our communities absorb one. Some of us work in this movement, and have spent years learning exactly what this fight costs and what it takes.
In the 4.5 hours it takes an average runner to finish a marathon, 62 Americans will be shot. That number shouldn't exist. So in a month, 11 of us are running the New York City Marathon as Team March For Our Lives.

The 60 people killed in Las Vegas deserved more than a rule that could be undone, and so does every community touched by gun violence. Sorrow alone cannot be our response, because nine years is already too long to wait for leaders to act.
In the aftermath of the shooting, bump stocks were banned only by federal regulation, never by law. So when the Supreme Court struck that rule down in 2024, there was no federal law to fall back on. Congress still hasn't acted, and today bump stocks are legal again across much of the country.
In those 10 minutes, the shooter fired more than 1,000 rounds into the crowd. Investigators later found 24 firearms in his hotel suite, more than a dozen of them AR-15-style rifles fitted with bump stocks that let them fire nine rounds per second. Every one of those guns was purchased legally.
Sixty families have spent nine years without the people who should still be here, and survivors have spent those same years rebuilding what was torn apart in 10 minutes.
