In other news, hope. On Monday I’ll be starting a new series of Writers Refuge: creative writing workshops for asylum seekers in Halifax. This week we’ll focus on the swallow, which travels 6000 miles from Africa and Asia to Europe and symbolises hope, love, home. And we’ll read Emily Dickinson.

Got my customary rejection letter from the Arts Council today. To anyone else who got theirs, empathy. One of the hardest things about being a freelance writer is having no bigger body to validate my work. Gonna spend today planning the new book anyway. Other suggestions for softening the blow?

After a morning workshop with Anna Chilvers and me, the afternoon session will feature an incredible line-up of the UK and Ireland’s best contemporary eco-poets.

Expect a friendly and accessible event where you can be as creative as the performers.
