πŸ’§ Provide water for birds. A shallow container of clean water is essential for garden birds in autumn. Replace with fresh water and disinfect the container regularly. πŸ•·οΈ Be kind to spiders. House spiders live indoors year-round. Avoid putting them outside when you spot them in your house.

How to help wildlife this autumn: πŸ‚ Embrace a messy garden. Fallen leaves, log piles and seedheads are important shelter and food for birds and insects. πŸ¦” Look out for Hedgehogs. Can Hedgehogs move freely through your neighbourhood? If not, consider leaving a small gap at the base of fences.

Deep in the Tywi Forest a very special creature is scurrying about. (Red-orange fur, bushy tail, and an elusive nature... any guesses?) 🐿️

Our team working on the Mid Wales Red Squirrel Project captured this footage earlier this year, on cameras deployed last summer.

Some of our favourites to spot are: πŸ”΄ Robin's Pincushion - a hairy, round growth found on wild roses. πŸ›Έ Spangle Galls - on the underside of Oak leaves, some look like little flying saucers, others like cheerios! 🟠 Marble Galls. Round growths that form on Oak buds in summer.

What are those funky lumps and bumps on plants? Introducing: galls! Simply put, they're growths on plants, made from plant tissue. And they can be caused by insects, bacteria or fungus. Once you start to spot them, you'll see them everywhere!
