Panel 1: An ornithopter flies over a desert while a spice harvester crawls across the sand below.

Panel 2: Dani and Lulu stand with Jules on the harvester observation deck dressed in Dune-inspired clothing. Their eyes glow with an orange tint. Lulu asks Jules, “What is the projected seasonal spice output?” Jules, the mentat, replies, “The projected spice output will exceed seasonal demand by fourteen point six percent.”

Panel 3: Lulu dramatically gestures toward a giant worm-like creature rising from the desert. Lulu announces, “Behold the glorious worm, protector of the coveted spice!” Dani responds, “Lulu, I’m sorry but…”

Panel 4: They are all three actually standing in a pumpkin patch. Dani continues, “…Pumpkin spice does not come from pumpkins!” Lulu stands among the pumpkins pointing to a small green worm crawling on a pumpkin. Jules stands in the background holding a small pumpkin and her penguin plushy.

Comictober 2026: Spell Gone Wrong

Today’s comic costars Jules, her plushy penguin Vern, and the older girl Mary Brooks as they join Dani and Lulu in a nice fantasy Table Top RPG.

Panel 1 top: Vern as a wizard, Jules as a fighter, Lulu as a thief, and Dani as a barbarian carefully cross a rope bridge spanning a deep chasm.

Panel 1 bottom: The rope bridge breaks apart and the adventurers begin falling into the gorge below.

Panel 2 top: At a tabletop roleplaying game, Jules holds her penguin plushy named Vern and says, “Vern casts Feather Fall.” Mary, the game master, replies, “Roll for effect.”

Panel 2 bottom: Holding the Vern plush under one arm, Jules shakes a twenty-sided die in hand, preparing to roll.

Panel 4: A close-up of the die shows she rolled a 1. Mary responds, “Vern made a terrible mistake.”

Panel 5: Back in the fantasy world, Vern the penguin wizard falls on three pillow that look like the other adventurers. Feathers poof from the pillows on impact.

I remember those clamshells. What VHS tapes we had that weren't bootleg copies (courtesy of my aunt's two VCRs) were often Disney movies in clamshells. Ultimately, I made the jump to DVD to avoid deterioration, and didn't bother with Blu-Ray because I'd already achieved my goal.
