Over the last couple of years I've returned to my old habits and started playing Hex and Counter wargames again. I've been quite impressed by the games from the Swedish publisher 3CG, so here is a teach and play of one of their east front games I wanted to share, here is Iskra :

she said "you can do anything in fiction as long as the situation afterwards is more interesting that the situation before." since then i have been keeping an eye on character death in fiction. many writers seem to think that character death "raises the stakes" but actually just makes things boring

Medieval Executions π§΅
Hi there. One of my areas of expertise is medieval crime and punishment. If youβre interested, here are some comments on medieval executions. Note that, just as today, practices and perceptions varied widely across medieval Europe...

The Folks over at @wehrlegig.games are running a kickstarter for their new game, Infamous Traffic.
Seeing I have had the chance to play it a good bit already and I think it is worth checking out. It made sense to drop some thoughts to help people find out what it is about.
Steamforged Games is facing mounting criticism from crowdfunding backers over unresolved refunds and dwindling updates across its undelivered projects, after it cut about a third of its workforce and refocused towards its Warmachine miniatures earlier this year:

Colleagues in Maynooth, please join on Monday 13:00 at TSI for this rally in support of the Palestinian students whose visas have been denied. We have two fully funded students from Gaza due to come to Maynooth as well as many more at other institutions across Ireland who have been refused visas.

My history of the crossbow in medieval Europe is currently available as an ebook for ~Β£6 if you're in the UK. I think it's worth it, but I'm pretty biased.
How big do board game designers think tables are? Have they seen tables?
I would have loved for it to be longer, but the publisher has a very specific length they want all of their books to be, and I wanted it to be accessible to most people because there's not much on crossbows right now. I'm hoping to return to the subject sometime in the future in longer form.
I just want the record to reflect that I am no officially a Dungeon Synth Guy (tm)*, so if you have any Dungeon Synth you want to recommend to me I am all ears. *let's be real, it's been a long time coming.
I wrote an askhistorians post...11 years ago. Man, how time flies. Anyway, I go into more detail on the context and how we should understand the crossbow section of Second Lateran there: www.reddit.com/r/AskHistori...
I do cover it in the book, but the tl;dr is that no, it did not really make a difference. The proclamation was one of many attempts by the papacy to limit and control secular violence within Europe, with overall mixed results.
