New research commissioned by Ofsted found 88% of schools said inspections negatively affected well-being, while only 32% felt inspection-related workload was manageable.

Graded inspections should be halted immediately and replaced with a more constructive approach.

Interesting debate with education secretary Lucy Powell during EPI event at Labour conference on how to transform the life chances of disadvantaged pupils. Recognition that schools have a vital role - but also that they can't do it alone and need support, including from local services.

At today's joint union fringe event with education secretary Lucy Powell our general secretary Paul Whiteman argued that school leaders improve standards, not Ofsted.
