This introduction to SI reconstructs ecocide's shift from an anti-imperialist critique of wartime destruction to a proposed international crime. It argues that this legal turn depoliticises the concept, limiting its capacity to challenge structural, colonial, and capitalist harm.

Using item response theory on a Swiss sample, the authors evaluate 36 established items and refine a nine-item environmental concern scale. It better distinguishes high concern and outperforms them in predicting behaviour and policy support.

This report challenges the assumption that hope is necessary for climate action, arguing that uncritical hope can sustain the status quo and depoliticise transformation. False hopes, such as hydrogen aviation, can delay action, while pessimism and hopelessness may open space for radical responses.

Using Nanjing’s waste sorting, the article develops a responsibility-capacity alignment framework. It proposes a relational view of state capacity: early govt alignment succeeded, but citizen responsibility without capacity produced fatigue.

This article proposes a multiscalar framework assessing climate politics through four justice approaches across international, national, and civil-society scales. In Denmark, it finds moral leadership masks eco-modernist, growth-oriented limits, while civil society contests official framings.

The article uses an exploratory case study of Israel to examine how naturalgas discoveries affected democratic institutions. It shows that liberal democracies may face a resource curse through legal corruption, media capture, and state capture, contributing to democratic erosion.

This article uses text-as-data methods on 225 US and Chinese government statements (2010-24) to trace how state narratives legitimise shale gas. It finds shared security and economic frames, a co-occurring clean-fuel claim, China’s air-quality response, and US fracking as energy diplomacy.
