Was kind of surprised when my friends started a conversation asking if anyone's heard of "that one yuri that's getting an anime" (oops, I know both the long title and the short title). Green flags for my friends, I guess? I've been trying to gauge their reactions with certain topics and this is […]

[AI, ±] do I think that real programmers would read this book and actually follow its advice on safety? no will I use AI to program, given a choice? Also no

@mercurial.booping.synth.downloadOct 11, 2026, 12:40 PM

[AI, ±] the uni had a shelf labelled "take these free books on AI" and I took some (cause, why not? I can always treat it like I treat unreliable narrators) was disappointed to see that it doesn't actually explain the technology behind AI (I was hoping to learn something about regression and […]

Just entering this hall makes me feel happy.

@mercurial.booping.synth.downloadOct 11, 2026, 4:29 AM

Atrium-1 makes me so happy for some reason. It's beautifully cool, just enough to make me feel slightly cold but not enough to ever make me uncomfortable in any clothing. It gets natural light from the skylights, but they're super fogged and dirty so it isn't actually sunny. It's basically the […]

it's almost 2027, and i'm starting to think that the most positive method for determining if something was made by a person, that being "well it existed more than 5 years ago" , is starting to show some flaws

a friend hates me (as a joke) because I said "I like touching computers" as a joke ugh, I wish people understood my fedi references

[Harry Potter mention, the Malfoid trend that's apparently going around, homophobia] This is now a tangent. So anyways I saw some art of a yaoi ship getting this treatment and I was like, "Huh. Let's headcanon that the guy who wasn't femmed here was also a girl, but just with really short hair […]

[homophobia] I really wonder how homophobic people would feel if they ended up in a homonormative and heterophobe-dominated society.

@mercurial.booping.synth.downloadOct 10, 2026, 7:14 PM

[homophobia] Romantic love is a really widespread experience; it's just that people experience it in different ways. If only people would understand that just cause they don't get a certain type of love doesn't mean it's wrong. Like, c'mon, I really don't get it when my friends share their […]

[Harry Potter mention, the Malfoid trend that's apparently going around, homophobia] But then again, my personal experience is with het ships that I already enjoy as they are, but just enjoy un-straight-ening. People going, oh yeah now that it's het it's acceptable — then I suppose that _is_ […]

[Harry Potter mention, the Malfoid trend that's apparently going around, homophobia] (that word is ew but that's a discussion for another time) Sooo apparently people are finding gay ships more palatable when someone makes them het? Perhaps this is the straights discovering how it feels when […]

Vale Margaret Hamilton.
She was a Software Engineer.
She was the _first_ Software Engineer because she defined the term, Software Engineering:
"When I first came up with the term, no one had heard of it before, at least in our world. It was an ongoing joke for a […]

A B&W photo of a person standing next to a stack of printed paper as high as the top of their head. This is Margaret Hamilton, at work as a Software Engineer and the leader of a team of extremely specialised programmers who worked for NASA. The photo was taken in 1969, and it shows a physical form if her work since she joined the Apollo project in 1965 (she joined at the age of 29 by my calculation). My interpretation of the expression on her face is a mix of pride and mild amusement. She has glasses, long, straight hair, and neat office attire. Margaret Hamilton has her hands placed gently on the stack of printouts to keep it all balanced upright. The pages appear to be arranged in bundles, ranging from 8-10 centimetres thick, to 20cm thick or more. The resulting stack of printouts is physically impressive for being an unusual feat, and it represents something even more impressive: it's the printed form of the source-code she and the team she led wrote for the NASA Apollo project. Their software ran on the Apollo Guidance Computer that was that on board each Apollo command module and Apollo Lunar Module. The Apollo Guidance Computer onboard the Eagle was an essential flight instrument for Neil Armstrong when he piloted the craft to land on the surface of the moon.

When winter comes, I'm definitely getting myself lost in campus to try and find the best hangout spots and cafés.

It's really fun to try to get used to a new place without asking for directions, and getting lost and exploring as required. In games, I enjoy _not_ using quick travel in large, continuous maps. It forces you to actually look around and orient yourself.
