We look forward to receiving your abstracts and discussing these questions together in Gwangju!

We are particularly interested in who gains authority to define transition problems, who performs the labour of making proposed solutions workable, and how data gaps, material costs, infrastructural constraints, and field-level realities are addressed or marginalised.
The session invites empirical papers examining how policy agendas such as the “twin transition” and “AI for sustainability” are translated into concrete national STI strategies, organisational arrangements, and technological pathways.
The session is among 27 sister sessions within RC23 “Sociology of Science and Technology” and its Strategic Chair IX, “National Strategies in Science, Technology and Innovation.”
The XXI International Sociological Association (ISA) World Congress of Sociology, will be held in Gwangju on 4 - 10 Jul 2027.
The due date for the 300-word abstract is approaching, by Wednesday, 14 October 2026, 24:00 GMT. You can submit your abstract at: www.isa-sociology.org/isa-events/x...
I am delighted to co-organize an ISA 2027 session, “Making Digital–Ecological Transitions Work: National STI Strategies and the Labour of Strategic Translation,” with my fascinating colleagues Jon Kim and Youjung Shin.
