Working on a CHL roster projection for the CHL/USA series next month. Big theme: tons of forward depth. Not a ton of superstar power, but considering about 18 forwards for 13 spots.
One fascinating prospect so far is Buffalo Sabres seventh-round draft pick Vasily Zelenov. The Austrian national team forward has seven points through four games with the University of Wisconsin.
Ethan Wyttenbach has continued his scoring rampage with Quinnipiac. Absolutely will be one of the top contenders for the Hobey Baker.
Jayden Perron (13 points) and Michael Hage (12) have absolutely lit up the scoresheet with the University of Michigan so far. Michigan hasn't really played any tough competition yet, but still a huge stat line to start the year.
100% guaranteed
Playing some international hockey myself next month 👍
We've seen a handful of players picked up on waivers already this year. I looked at them and what they might bring to the table for @DailyFaceoff: https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/which-early-season-nhl-waiver-claims-can-most-impactful-puckpedia-stevenson-merilainen-barron
Former Vegas Golden Knights prospect Lucas Elvenes is having himself one heck of a season in the SHL. Elvenes has two goals and 11 assists for 13 points through six games with the Växjö Lakers. His SHL deal ends this spring. He's 27. Potential NHL UFA target?
Gavin McKenna heard the detractors. He was very well aware he had a slow first three games.
Last night, though, showed what he's capable of.
I took a look at what's working and what hasn't so far in McKenna's (very short) NHL tenure:
This is the real question
Is this the year where William Nylander finally gets 50 goals?
And the rink was as rowdy as we've heard in a regular season game in quite some time.
Gavin McKenna has his first career NHL goal.
Gavin McKenna with a good screen on the power play that leads to the second goal.
Gavin McKenna has his first NHL point after John Tavares scores.
Nils Höglander legacy game going on here at Scotiabank Arena tonight
Shoutout to the Ryan Ellis fan in Toronto
