@timbray @anildash I have read the book. It does not claim what you think it does (incidentally it isn’t very good). https://www.youtube.com/watch?is=Sxdt-B64MV1r75sd&v=7z5TXctHcSA&feature=youtu.be

@timbray @anildash There is no evidence to suggest that these platforms’ algorithms contributed to this user behavior. Instead, an idea spread under false circumstances and a credulous user base adopted this behavior willingly, unaware there are zero actual consequences for failing to adhere.

Look, I just don’t think you should refuse to use industry standard software engineering tools indefinitely just so you can net a few dozen Mastodon likes for keeping up the “why are computers” shtick you’ve been doing for the past 12 years

The way certain niche online modern-day religious communities (forever maskers, anti-AI Luddites) tend to organize less around their own sect’s survival than around perceived acts of blasphemy in the larger world (a mask-optional gathering, using an LLM to complete a task) is really something.

F’kin galling that Manjaro makes Wayland the default with no easy way to switch once the is is installed. This is normal.

Just now realizing that all of the anti-AI zealots on here are the same people who formed their entire personality a decade ago around treating a computer doing something slightly differently than they expected as a personal affront, and writing off their existence with a smugly dropped “This is […]

If you had told me in 2012 that the standard macOS controls would look like this in 2026 I’d be like, “Ooh nice, that makes sense. Looks amazing!” If you had me that in 2014 I’d be like, “Hah, I wish.”

I mean this is just educational polarization. “Isn’t political” > isn’t smart enough to understand politics > is conservative > votes Republican

I think if you talked to a philosopher or cognitive scientist five years ago, and as a thought experiment proposed accurately described the powers of today's LLMs, and asked them what the ramifications are, they would say something, hypothetically, not much different than what Frazee is saying
