Hey, neighbour! 🇨🇦

@djkelly.caOct 8, 2026, 10:18 PM

I don't like that the province so easily decided to disregard the will of voters in one city while respecting the other's voters.

@djkelly.caOct 8, 2026, 10:18 PM

Nor on the work council has planned for next year on zoning bylaws. I am concerned about this overstep by the province into local decision making by voters. While Calgary chose to elect council members to repeal the blanket rezoning bylaw, Edmonton voters did not.

@djkelly.caOct 8, 2026, 10:18 PM

Hey, neighbour! Today the province announced that they will be forcing a repeal of blanket rezoning on Edmonton City Council. These changes to the Municipal Government Act are not expected to significantly affect Calgary's progress on a new municipal development plan.

I look forward to seeing how my council colleagues can work more closely with The Nonprofit Chamber and all of its member to build a better Calgary.

From youth hockey teams in Ward 4, to seniors housing and support, to likely the community event you last attended over the weekend in your neighbourhood, these are examples of how non-profits make our city better.

@djkelly.caOct 7, 2026, 6:21 PM

This formal partnership framework represents a shared belief that I hold with the mayor that infrastructure is more than just buildings and roads, it also includes the organizations that glue our society together in common purpose.

Hey, neighbour! I want to congratulate Mayor Jeromy Farkas and The Nonprofit Chamber for signing a first-of-its-kind MOU in Canada to work closer on behalf of Calgarians.

It comes from a new provincial rule that makes manufacturers and brands responsible for the packaging they create, so you can now recycle the same things anywhere in Alberta. There's no change to your pickup schedule, and the City still collects your blue cart every week.

@djkelly.caOct 6, 2026, 3:21 PM

Hey, neighbour! As of October 1, more of your packaging can go in your blue cart. Snack bags and wrappers, toothpaste and lotion tubes, foam egg cartons and meat trays, and aerosol cans like sunscreen and cooking spray are all accepted now.

Ward 4 Councillor DJ Kelly graphic. More can go in your blue cart. Beside a blue cart made of crinkled paper and marked Recycling is a list, each item with a small paper icon. More bags and wrappers, like snack bags, wrappers and pouches. More tubes, like toothpaste, deodorant and lotion tubes. More foam, like packaging blocks, egg cartons, meat trays and takeout containers. More aerosols, like hairspray, sunscreen, cooking spray and whipped cream. More paper cans, like Pringles cans and coffee and hot chocolate canisters. Easier to recycle, plastic bags no longer need to be bundled, they go in the cart loose. Ten years ago while working for the City, I championed our city's Open Data Portal. I believe this motion will continue that work to make information not only publicly available but also accessible.

@djkelly.caOct 2, 2026, 4:19 PM

Hey, neighbour! Next week I am co-sponsoring a notice of motion by Mayor Jeromy Farkas that would increase transparency for Calgarians by providing additional details to the public from awarded City procurement contracts.

@djkelly.caSep 30, 2026, 5:55 PM

The only way we get to reconciliation is by acknowledging that truth. I encourage all Calgarians to take time today to learn more about the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada, and specifically here in Calgary, so that together we can all heal and move closer to reconciliation.

@djkelly.caSep 30, 2026, 5:55 PM

Hey, neighbour 🧡 I was at The Confluence today for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It's an important day to take the time to recognize the truth. Many people who held positions just like mine, or who look like me, enacted historical injustice against the Indigenous peoples of Canada.

That means working together with the province on essential infrastructure projects, and finding efficiencies with other municipalities across the province.

@djkelly.caSep 25, 2026, 5:07 PM

I believe our conversations have been critical for Calgarians, especially heading into the four-year budget deliberations in November where we need to be smart with the funding we have available.

@djkelly.caSep 25, 2026, 5:07 PM

Hey, neighbour! No level of government affects our daily lives more than municipal government. For the past two days several of my council colleagues and I have had a chance to connect with numerous municipally elected officials, and members of Alberta's government.

@djkelly.caSep 23, 2026, 10:06 PM

Hey, neighbour! Over the past week I was thrilled to attend the 60th anniversary of the North Haven Community Association and the 65th anniversary of the Triwood Community Association. It was incredible to see a retrospective on the decades of volunteerism that has made these communities great.
