In other news ... Here's a pile of Sun and other stuff sitting unloved in my garage.

I'm not sure any of this is actually ever going to get used again at this point . The two blue boxes at the top are an SGI Indy and a DEC Alphastation ... Classics of their […]

@sldrant You'd really hope AI might be able to determine that it's an obvious scam

How are ads for things like this making it into Youtube without it being detected? Nobody's going to sell you a USB storage device with 32Tb of space and 5000MB/s data transfer for Β£39 ...

Related to the post about USB-SCSI adapters (https://fosstodon.org/@sxa/117418002783874212) I have a few - now ancient - IBM PS/2 model 95s which used SCSI drives. Some with Pentium 60 CPUs, some 486. Most aren't fully starting up at the moment (looking for […]

Just had a look for a USB to SCSI interface (I have quite a few SCSI drives around). Thought that like most converters these days there would be loads of cheap ones around on the market ...

Nope - not found anything the sensible side of Β£100 which is crazy.

Because I still technically have an active land line in my property, the ISP (plusnet) is going to transfer me to another ISP unless I get in touch with them. Given that the move would mean losing my static IP address I think I'll be getting in touch to block that (Like most people I haven't had […]

Just looked up the ADATA SC610 1000GB USB SSD stick that I bought last August for Β£70. It's fantastic, but to buy another one would
cost about double that price now.

Grrr @ #AI ...

β€œIt is now the case that AI can output mathematical arguments in situations without the human who prompted it being able to understand the arguments, verify them, or take responsibility for them,”" β€œThe use of proprietary internal models by AI labs to do mathematical research risks creating a […]

When taking a picture of a web page I usually use the OS screenshot tool. I hadn't realised (Maybe it didn't do this in the past) that the built-in firefox screenshot functionality uses it's knowledge of the DOM to let you highlight and select blocks from the […]

Frustrating. Sharp "Smart TV" is no longer smart. Built-in obsolescence. Likely no support outside the manufacturer who have given up.

Smart TV is a gimmick. The sane option is going back to external devices (Fire sticks are the best end user solution here […]

The issue with Big Tech ...
This is a screenshot from trying to log into #Meta #Facebook from one device I have. It gets stuck in a loop at the #Google (!) #reCaptcha

Let's be realistic, neither of the two companies involved are ever going to give me any idea […]

There hasn't been a great deal of good news today ... After yesterday being sent the wrong item from China (which I'd paid import duty on to the courier, although at least the supplier is sending the correct item now) today I got an unexpected, and weird large, tax bill (Seems UK PAYE didn't […]

@poleguy The ability to transfer a playlist from one service (e.g. Spotify/YouTube/CSV with tasks) into another e.g. Deezer. I think that command you have to download a playlist is actually downloading the audio tracks, not the list of providing a way to put it into the target service

On a note positive note I think I have a working build environment on my SpacemiT-K3 #RISCV board that has successfully built V8.

@sxa.fosstodon.org.ap.brid.gySep 30, 2026, 2:52 PM

@poleguy That's "just" a downloader isn't it, not a playlist transfer service.

So it seems that today, if I try to paste something into #Slack, the application locks up and I have to restart it. Not useful, although it makes me realise how often I try to cut and paste things into slack ...

Seems I'm not the only one having failed deliveries from China to the UK today :eyeroll: ...

@sxa.fosstodon.org.ap.brid.gySep 30, 2026, 1:52 PM

<sigh> Got a delivery from China today. Had already paid the import duty and tax. Opened the package and ... it's the wrong item. Great. This will be fun ...
