I’ve read half the books in this episode (all great) and my favourite is Jess K. Hardy’s Lips Like Sugar. The whole series is fantastic. For a different baking vibe, I recommend Kathryn Moon’s Baker’s Guide to Risky Rituals.
Honestly the world would be a lot better if more people were out there reading romance. And baking cakes. 😘
But if this is all too much, you can just visit our Best Books page, where you'll find the ten books we've enjoyed the most each year since we started the podcast. We're up to 70, with more coming soon!
And the Random Romance Recommender, which provides unlimited book recs with episode info for context.
Then there's the Book Club, were you can find every deep dive we've ever done. We're almost to 90.
Our search engine is fine-tuned for romance readers, so it's only going to autocomplete with romance authors and books and series and tropes and inside jokes.
And then there's fatedmates.net, where you'll find every book we've ever discussed, organized by episode topic.
If you visit fatedmates.net/audiobooks you'll find our collection at @libro.fm, sorted by price, so you can easily find discounted titles. We just started building this, but we're already at 399 books. For example, if you visit right now, you'll find 20 audiobooks priced from $4-$8.
We've shared 77 lists over at @pagebound.bsky.social. There's also a quest if you ever wanted our deep dive episodes to be gently gamified.
We're aggregating DRM-free titles over at
@bookshop.org. We've only added 77 so far, as it's extremely inconvenient to find them. But we usually add a few new ones each week.
We've added nearly 1000 titles to Bookbub so far.
It's not hard to discover good books because there are none available. It's hard because IT'S HARD TO DISCOVER ANYTHING! We're primarily a podcast, so you're going to have to listen if you want to know why we're talking about these books, but if you just want good books to read, we're here for you.

Author and friend of the podcast Melissa Walker joined us back in 2024 to explain why The States Project is the most meaningful and efficient way to donate. player.captivate.fm/episode/0599...
I read romance, I teach romance, I value romance. And I am always slightly confounded at the difference between what people think it is and what it actually is. The idea that a whole subset of novels dedicated to intimate human relations are indifferent are going to be simple and worthless? Weird.
