Today, we celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day, recognizing their rich history, culture, contributions, and endurance The Council first recognized this day eight years ago, and seven years ago, we made the name change permanent
Died on this date in 1779: Brigadier General Casimir Pulaski. Revolutionary War hero, savior of George Washington, “father of the American cavalry,” one of only 8 *ever* honorary citizens of the US, & namesake of our neighboring Pulaski Park
We are deeply saddened by the loss of Talib Shakir, a dedicated public servant who was tackling one of the most critical and challenging jobs in government. What a terrible tragedy.
A very Happy Birthday to At-Large Councilmember Christina Henderson!
On this date in 1806, Benjamin Banneker passed away at the age of 74. He played a key role in surveying the original boundaries of the District of Columbia. (The good, pre-retrocession boundaries, just to be clear.)
This is clearly not acceptable
In this date in 1987, the Go-Go Live at the Capital Centre concert took place. The sold-out event was a milestone in local go-go history.
