🎃 Celebrate the autumn season with us this weekend at Pumpkinfest! Alongside food, music, vendors, and more, we will be tabling with an assortment of books, merchandise, and information about us.

#middletown #vendor #pumpkinfest

A vibrant, colorful hand-drawn poster for the Pumpkinfest. The name is written in a green colored pencil in bubble letters, in a cutout background of a lighter shade of green. The rest of the poster is a light orange with a yellow border. The words "Saturday, October 10, 12-4pm, Long Lane Farm" are written in black in the center. Surrounding it are yellow bubbles with the separate words (indicated by slashes) "Free food! / Vendors! / Crafts! / Farmers! Live music! Proceeds benefit Amazing Grace food pantry!" This is all above a large pumpkin drawing, sketched out in color with artist pens. There are green vines climbing from underneath it to nearly the top of the page.

At UC Berkeley on October 7th, Brenda Hillman will be reading from her new collection as part of the Holloway Reading Series!

#readingseries #poetry #ucberkeley

A deep red background with thin yellow lines. At the top is an image of Brenda Hillman in an autumnal leaf frame; to her right is the cover of her book, Still House in the Desert, which pictures a cactus in the desert, overlayed by a loose white dress—the two are colored in a dark yellow gradient fading to orange. The graphic reads "Brenda Hillman at the Halloway Reading Series;" the font for the first two words is a tall, thin serif, with the latter words being slightly more playful, and "Halloway Reading Series" being bolded. Read a new review by David Lloyd on Rae Armantrout's Safe Rooms, published in Jacket2!

#poetry #review #jacket2

"A review quote is between two dark brown ripped paper graphics at the top and bottom of the image.
Words: ""While poems are not formally grouped, readers of Armantrout's previous twenty poetry collections will recognize clusters addressing her distinctive terrain: images from the natural world, challenging segues, shape-shifting words and phrases yielding diverse perspectives on the environment, time, language, contemporary culture, lived experience, and the function of poetry in our fraught national moment. Poems present as modest in scale but soon explode with outsized ambitions. One of the great pleasures of a new Armantrout collection are 'small things' — luminous images and moments drawn from the natural world, sometimes dominating a poem, sometimes popping up."" —David Lloyd, Jacket2"

John Mills, contributor to A Century in Captivity: The Life and Trials of Prince Mortimer, an Enslaved Connecticut Man, wrote, directed, and produced Reverence: Reclaiming the Forgotten, which includes the story of Prince Mortimer. It will be screening at the Mystic Film Festival on October 3rd.

A grainy background of purples, browns, and beiges. The cover of "A Century in Captivity: The Life and Trials of Prince Mortimer, an Enslaved Connecticut Man." The cover is cut horizontally by a stark image of a rope—the background is an off-white color with translucent map lines above it. The contributer section reads "Denis R. Caron; foreword by John Mills; introduction by Jesse Nasta." The bottom reads "Revised Edition." Beside it is the logo for the Mystic Film Festival, written in a serif font, and a small, simple image of a whale tail above it. Directly below is the poster for Mills' new film, "Reverence: Reclaiming the Forgotten." It pictures a man standing away from the camera, looking down at the graveyard before him. It is a snowy scene, and the sun is setting from a light blue to a yellow. There is a large tree in the foreground.

See Camille T. Dungy at Prairie Lights next week to read from America, A Love Story and speak with poet Donika Kelly!

#poetry #iowacity #reading

A very pale seafoam-green background. A large image of the cover of America, A Love Story: it is a stark black background of a nighttime sky with scattered stars twinkling. The author's name is in the top right corner in a sans serif font, colored light brown. The title is at the bottom left corner: "America, A Love Story," with the first word being a mustard yellow, and the latter three matching the light brown hue. To the right, still in sans serif, are the dark blue words "Camille T. Dungy in conversation with Donika Kelly." In a blue-green box, with black text, are the words "Thursday September 17, 7pm." Two images are beneath it. One, larger and in a wavy circle, is an image of Dungy; sunlight is shining on her face as she laughs, facing to the left, away from the camera. She is against a background of leaves and trees. In a square below is a picture of Kelly, wearing a pink top and looking directly at the camera.
