You could start with a short pilot chapter and see how the pacing feels visually. That way, you could experiment with both formats without having to abandon the novel you've already been developing! 3/3

Dark fantasy can work incredibly well in comics. especially when it comes to atmospheric environments, dramatic battles, horror, and character expressions. You wouldn't have to commit to illustrating the entire story right away, either. 2/3

I think you could explore a hybrid approach! You could continue developing the story as a novel while picking some of its most intense or visually powerful moments to adapt into a short comic. 1/3

If this opportunity is still available, I’d love to work on it! I feel my artistic style is a great fit for what you’re aiming for. Please take a look at my work and my profile to see the clients I’ve worked with and the experience I bring. I look forward to hearing from you!

How do you all manage to get here before the bots? 😂 Anyway, I’m curious! How long has the campaign been running, and what’s your friend’s dragon monster’s backstory?

@emily-jack.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 1:52 AM

You should just start and give it a try instead of overthinking it! Make it a part of your life, and I’ll support you as an artist. What kind of story were you thinking of writing that you’ve been putting off?

@emily-jack.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 1:45 AM

I hope this opportunity is still open and I get selected! This is right up my alley, and projects like these are rare to find. Thank you,

Your dark fairytale direction sounds really interesting! I specialize in fantasy environments and creature art, and I’d love to be considered for Downrooted. Here’s my portfolio: www.artstation.com/emilyjackson01 Which category are you prioritizing first?

The scenes, shots, and frames needed. A project of this length can take around 2–3 months, depending on the complexity, so we could also discuss an installment payment plan if that works better for you. 3/4

Are you thinking of frame by frame animation, or do you have another style in mind? Also, do you already have a storyboard prepared, or would you need one created first? When I work on animation projects, having a script and storyboard is essential because they help determine. 2/4

Hey! I can’t explain the entire process here in a comment, but I can give you a general idea! If you’re interested, feel free to DM me, and we can discuss everything in more detail. For an animation under 3–4 minutes, the approach would depend on the style and complexity of the project. 1/4

I love the historical field-guide aesthetic you're going for! I'd be interested in creating a fully human-made version while keeping your original text and the overall vintage look. Would you be open to discussing the layout and illustration details?
