Its neck is sharply bent, so the head rests on the chest feathers, and its face is unfeathered and scaled in a brown color similar to the surrounding feathers. Its eye is small and orange, and the area around it is bare red skin like the face of a chicken. Similar red wattles are found on the edges of the face in two layers, and two small snoods sprout from either side of the chin. The mouth of the raptor is slightly open to reveal a row of sharp white teeth.
Over its shoulder, a blue sky with clouds is visible.
The main light source in the painting is sunlight, which hits the dinosaur from the back side, over its shoulder. This light shadows most of the face and mouth.

The metal body is coiled over itself on a rough black floor, and the tip of its tail is made up of large exposed vertebrae held together with sets of cables that run through holes drilled into the bones.
