One more! Somehow that monster grew from two bodies to many with no explanations!!! It looked cool but where did the other bodies come from!?!?!?!?!?! I only saw a few in that movie and not enough to explain that monster.
So I went on a 16 thread post rant about the new 2026 Resident Evil.... I have issues with it.... pretty much the same issues that I have with all movies these days.
Use some logic, people!!! It's not that hard. Horror characters don't have to be stupid!!! Yes, sometimes you have to kill your characters and put them in bad situations but give them a fighting chance for crying out loud!!! Sometimes they deal with things beyond what's normal!!!
I've add new kinds of monsters to a reboot series. Do these match the original lore and series? If no, how do I make it feel like the original? I should consider rewriting it if I can't make it come close to matching.
Does this make me feel sorry for the character? Do I feel scared for the character? Do I want the character to survive? No? I probably didn't build on an emotional plot and should consider rewriting it!
Does this make sense for the story or is it just a cool scene? If it's a cool scene and doesn't add to the story and get me to where it's going, then you should rewrite it!!!
Can my character service this to get where I need the story to go? If yes, continue! If no, perhaps I should rewrite this?
My verdict. No one knows how to write a good story anymore. Especially in movies. They do things that look cool, yes, and that's ok BUT you must follow through with the promise and build what makes sense.
I also wouldn't have gone into the lab WHERE THE CURE WAS BEING MADE! KNOWING I was infected. WHY!!!!!! Leave the package at the lab door and leave like a true hero. End of 2nd reboot franchise! This doesn't need a sequel with all the things I'm complaining about.
I didn't feel anything for the character other then a few jumpscares. I probably could have survived a lot better and without getting bite unlike the main guy. Why do horror movies feature idiots? felt nothing
Text message still would have made more sense even without service. It would add some hope if done the right way. Besides this moment came out of no where. We didn't see him think about his wife/girlfriend once the chase started. He made one phone call after they got disconnected and that was it.
So there was a moment I was supposed to have some sympathy for the main character and I didn't. He saved a voice message for his pregnant girlfriend/wife. It was just a phone recording. Whose to say phones will be around in this apocalypse?
Don't get me started on the ending. It was cool but that was it. SPOILER!!! So the guy turned into one of the monsters and he could think.... the other's didn't appear to be able to think except for one. The rules of the virus were not consistent.
It wasn't clear why the monster was chasing the main character. It also wasn't clear why this monster could come back unlike a handful of others.
There was no clear conclusion to the main monster in the chase. It just kinda fell off a building and Idk what happened to it. They missed an opportunity to make a bigger and badder one with that. That's all I'll say.
I think it was an easter egg but the main character shot three different locks with guns before he finally got one to break. If it were me, if it didn't work the first time I wouldn't have tried the other two times just to waist ammo.
The sad part is that i figured out that the monsters could be killed long before the main character even figured it out. And he had killed 5 by that point before he said "So they can be killed". Some where coming back and some weren't before that statement. It wasn't clear why.
So i finally watched the new 2026 Resident Evil and it was just ok. Didn't hit like the original 2002 series. Kudo's for creative monsters but I don't remember the monsters being able to do what they did back in the original. Spoiler warning on my thread here.
Thinking about quitting the day job... I have nothing lined up, so not sure what to do next, considering I'm still trying to rebuild a broken dream with no help.
Well I won't be publicly sharing the writing battle story just yet since I'm planning to turn it isn't a short and unique novelette as a test for the new idea I came up with a day or two ago for novels. I'll share once the contest ends though and that's in November I think, #WritingCommunity.
