Read a paragraph aloud & listen for words that feel slightly wrong. Your ear can spot a weak word before your editor's brain can see it.

The first word that comes to mind isn't always the best. During a micro edit, pause over nouns and verbs. Are they the right ones?

When editing, look at every “very”, “really”, “quite” and “just”. Does the sentence need it? If it can survive without it, delete it!
