Public support, co-financing to de-risk producer investment & safeguards so buyers don't push costs onto smallholders to ensure no one is left behind.

Now, the co-legislators must strengthen social and environmental safeguards so procurement delivers a fairer, more sustainable economy.
@fairtradeftao.bsky.socialThe Public Procurement Act proposal recognises #FairTrade and fair pay for farmers, moves away from lowest-price criteria and strengthens attention to human rights.
But fairness cannot depend on whether a public buyer chooses to consider it.

A solid start, but clearer guidance is needed on remediation, state-imposed forced labour & shared responsibility.
