I would not set a frequency on talking. It is not about 'getting the info across' but 'opening the topic, this topic =ok'. It is about the way you talk about it with your child (with confidence, accepting differences in how you as parent/ child experience DC, handling own emotions etc). #ESHREjc

From practice experience: teenagers might be curious but are also aware that you get info abou/ meet a genetic related stranger. That can be daunting as you don't know how it will turn out. Some want to wait until they feel a little bit more self-confident to handle it ( healthy coping) #ESHREjc
This also a one-point in time set-up ( understandable, no critique to the study) but people might have different views in 1 year for example. We should be carefull to treat these answer as if they were 'final' answers/ decision #ESHREjc
We should not forget the age of the participants. While 'wanting donorinformation or not' might seem/ is an interesting question for research there might be/is lot's of other stuff going on in a teenagers life that might be much more interesting than donorinfo #ESHREjc
There is a worldwide lack of post-conception psychosocial support for parents, donors and DCP ( see Paper Goedeke, Crawshaw, Indekeu) disclosure is not just about 'giving info' but much more about emotions ( insecurity, nervous,...) #ESHREjc
Both -donor and DCP- should be given the opportunity of support ( managing expectations, exploring if each wants contact, what kind of contact, in what way, if eg partner of the donor, his /her children know about the donation,...) #ESHREjc
YET, support for parents and DCP is essential to understand requests and guide questions regarding donor information througout all ages #ESHREjc
I wrote a paper together with Dutch colleagues ( legal experts and ethicist and psychologist) in Human Fertility. Access to your origine is a human right. From a legal point you need to have very strong/essential arguments to give DCP not access to this information. There weren'r any #ESHREjc
Reasons for interest has more to do with own needs we found in a review( better understand oneself, placing traits better etc). And the level of interest can differ between people. And over time ( as well as expressing this interest)
I think we should be conscious that there is also a difference between having interest in info and expressing this interest. DCP are very sensitive to how their interest is felt by their parents.also shown in studies. Familybonds can have an impact on the expression of interest
