I tend to be drawn toward monsters that are meaningfully *inhuman*. That's just me, though. Maybe this is why I have all these undead models. Maybe it's because they're very easy to paint. Some of this will be relevant to Tuesday's episode. Not the bit about painting.

I have to admit, the whole thing of viewing everything in the context of later versions does seem like it overlooks a lot of what's interesting about the subject.

I mean, I feel like the ancestor is the hazy, gossipy music memoir or Hollywood fan magazine. Often equally wrong, though for at least partly different reasons.

As I get older, it's increasingly common to see people on social media talking about things I personally remember as if they are somehow hidden or secret -- and often wrong about it. But I think this is true in all fields of popular culture.
