@fatsam what’s funny is the article makes a huge deal out of the difference between expected revenue and actual revenue of $20B. It completely glosses over the difference between revenue and expenses. OpenAI operates at a loss and also has liabilities on the order of $500B. The difference […]
@dashdsrdash The instructions are here and they use ZFSBootMenu.
Doing a #debian #linux install on an older #Macbook (2015) and I went with the easy option of encryption on LVM on root. Performance was unbearable. I'm now following @dwarmstrong 's instructions on how to do encrypted ZFS on root. The performance impact of the encryption isn't even noticeable […]
Yeah. I get it. Cars connected to the internet (like kitchen appliances and TVs) seems like such a bad idea. The fact that it's only active when the car is in park makes it more palatable. But I'd rather have to install it manually if I wanted it.
I see how cute this is. If I had a car that did this I would sell that motherfucker instantly. This is apparently the “Halloween update” to Rivian EVs. I drive cars, not phones that have seats.
[edit: apparently this can only be active when the car is in […]
I notice a lot less interest in running stories “in the mind of a Harris voter” during #Trump 2.0 than we saw “in the mind of a trump voter” during Biden.

It's like looking inside a Kaleidescope and saying "I saw towering spires more complex than any human design, this must be a new autonomous architecture" but it's just a chamber of mirrors and lenses around the material world it is reflecting distortedly.
Who went through all the major platforms where the Pentagon might stream their barbaric firing squad "livestream" execution to see if it violated their policies? Me. I did it.
Hey Platforms: Your Violent Content Policies Are About To Meet The Pentagon’s Firing Squad There is plenty of coverage everywhere you look about how Pete Hegseth and... https://www.techdirt.com/2026/10/09/hey-platforms-your-violent-content-policies-are-about-to-meet-the-pentagons-firing-squad/
@diazona That is indeed legendary. I have done nothing so amazing.
Though I am delighted that I managed to recover 118G of stuff I was afraid of losing.

Just like with fedi polls the answer is always spiderman.
The adapters are expensive, and I didn't want to buy junk that didn't work, so I bought JEN YOO WINE Apple adapters.
* Apple MC913ZM/A Thunderbolt 2 cable
* Apple MMEL2AM/A Thunderbolt 3 USB-C to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter
But I'm cheap and I bought them […]
But either way, suddenly I was in a situation of # ls ls: command not found # rm big-tar-file.tar rm: command not found Booting to the recovery OS required downloading the ancient version of macOS off the Internet that would still run on this mac. And **that** version […]
Some skipped details. I had been using OpenCore to keep it running modern macOS long past Apple's official support death. The last patch I tried (Sonoma?) seems to have corrupted filevault. At first, it would boot, prompt me for the password, then die. (it just froze, never getting off the […]
Long tech story with a happy ending and a funny punchline. I'll relegate some details to the replies. I have an old (2015) MacBook. Something got corrupted. I can get to the drive in the recovery OS, but it won't boot. No problem. I was thinking of putting debian on it anyway. I figure I'll […]
I really need to learn to use bookmarks in my browsers. (I should also synchronise them across devices) There’s a blog I read not to long ago (maybe August, July?) about the gestalt created by using AI tools. And that’s what I remember. Not only did I have to look up the word gestalt, because I […]
@FritzAdalis I was more worried about pulling all the ones to one side of the disk and making it heavier on that side. I wouldn’t want it to wobble. @moriel
DON’T LET PASSENGERS STEER DURING TAXI!
@moriel For the love of dog, please get more sleep in the future so you don’t commit further crimes in your sleep-addled haze.
i woke up this morning at 4:30am to use the bathroom and could not get back to sleep afterwards. As i lay in bed in the pre-dawn dark my mind went down strange pathways and i found myself having a revelation: there is an unmet need in the world for a program that can sort files - at the bit […]
Seems to me that “backfiring squads” is what we have now. And they’re not very entertaining.
