Just realized I am absolutely using replies wrong to try to keep tacking things onto a thread. So, here's a sub-thread (is that even a thing?) of a cool SRD in the TTRPG Collective Bundle ( itch.io/b/3934/ttrpg... ).
I think the person that told you that is absolutely wrong. But I also think that what you're proposing would perfectly negate their complaint and shut them up.
And a very rad combat overhaul for Girl Frame (that's not part of the TTRPG Collective bundle, but you should also go check out). If you're into Girl Frame and/or seeing LitS in action, this would be a great place to start: zoranzia.itch.io/mistressofar...
They even have a full game built on it where you play Necromancers managing the (un)dead to keep the world running after the apocalypse: lithuasil.itch.io/hammer-and-s...
Sadly not part of the bundle, but I've added it to my list to check out sooner than later.
The system reminds me a lot of combat in Sword World or Dracurouge, but expanded up on so you can have some additional granularity (and as a result - more tactical choices.
One more for the moment - Line in the Sand: lithuasil.itch.io/lits
This isn't actually a #ttrpg proper, but more of an SRD that outlines a tactical combat setup that brings the best parts of grid-based combat without fiddling with a grid, and terrain, and templates, and etc.
It's very board-gamey, and I mean that in the best way - it handles the mechanics, but in ttrpg fashion, it adds a ton of flavour so you can lean into the cute concept. This is a perfect off-night option when someone is missing (and you want them to be jealous of the fun you had).
If you want more details, you play as a cute family of slimes that has been upgraded by a magical object in your cave. Some adventures, as they are wont to do, have come and stolen it. Without it, you'll be turned back into regular boring slimes.
Ready to hear about more #ttrpg s? I know you are, because these are great. Let's start with Rainbow Mutant Slimes: leigheldridge.itch.io/rainbow-muta...
This game is adorable, and I mean that both in a mechanical design and visuals sense. You could learn it and get it to a table in 20-30 minutes.
Taking a genre seriously and just having a good time with that (instead of winking every time you do anything that genre is known for) makes for such incredible and enjoyable stories.
Oh, gotcha, sorry!
Fiasco is always a good option. Stewpot is really excellent at seeing a group of characters change over time as they get used to the post-adventuring life. I know there's lots of others, but all ones I've read and not played...
Anything in particular you're thinking? Or are you looking for something?
Still waiting for a movie adaptation of this truly wild sequel. My friend has been wanting to read this because of how unhinged it is, but has yet to start b/c they can't find a copy with a good cover.
And finally (for now), Awakened Applewood, a very cozy solo journaling game that gives you questions you want answered and townsfolk that might help you figure out the answers: applefordhearth.itch.io/awakened-app...
I love the prompts here, and how they all loop back to your questions.
I'm going to try to add a few more later today, but to cap it off there's (Everyone Roll A) Perception Check, which takes one of my least favourite mechanics in DnD and turns it into a very fun game all by itself: whimsy-machine.itch.io/perception-c...
And I've mentioned Our Roots Grow Strong as well, that gives me Swamp Thing meets Werewolf the Apocalypse vibes in a dense package you could get playing in no time: laughing-lark-games.itch.io/our-roots-gr...
I've already posted about 22 Paths, which has one of the most creative and flavourful resolution mechanics I've seen in a ttprg: thefifthrider.itch.io/22-paths
So, for the (very tiny) audience that I have on here, you may have noticed the extremely cool bundle I keep reposting things from: itch.io/b/3934/ttrpg...
The TTRPG Collective put together this awesome set of stuff, and it's definitely one to go check out.
Happy birthday! I haven't read/played as many of your games as I'd like, but I absolutely adore Haxen and HYBAGG. Both are so packed with amazing vibes in minimal page count. They're an absolute inspiration. Hope you're having an awesome one.
