I grew up hearing about the importance of 5- and 10-year life plans, but now that I’m an adult the world is so volatile I can barely make a 1-year plan without the economy self-destructing in ways once thought impossible

Plenty of paces (at least in the US) offer free hearing tests. Takes ~45 min. Sincerely, a musician who found out he's HoH and cried when he heard himself sing the first time after getting hearing aids.
