Weeks like these are an important reminder that across the province, good people work hard every day to support their communities. It’s a real privilege to be a part of this work, and to see it firsthand. 2/2

It was particularly special to make this announcement in Haida Gwaii, where they continue to demonstrate what resilient and connected communities can achieve. Thank you to the Haida Nation, Old Massett Village Council, and Skidegate Band Council for having us. 2/2

It was a pleasure to be in Haida Gwaii this week with Ministers Davidson and Gibson to announce funding to help more rural, remote and Indigenous communities enable 911 dialling. 1/2

We’re grateful to local governments for being essential partners during this difficult time and to all of the firefighters, emergency responders, volunteers and staff who supported people throughout the summer. 4/4

And while visiting the CRD Emergency Operations Centre, it was wonderful to witness Chair Wagner lift the final evacuation alert for the Pear Lake Wildfire in CRD area. 3/4

An impactful visit to the Clinton area this week, meeting with local leaders including Mayor Stanke and Kukpi7 Fletcher. We discussed the significant impacts of the Pear Lake Wildfire on the region, and the path forward in recovery.

We’re happy to share that Summerland’s businesses, wineries, orchards, and tourism community are open for business. See you here soon! @dianagibson.bsky.social

Glad to visit Summerland earlier this week. During wildfire response, we had asked people to visit other areas in BC or reschedule to give room for first responders and evacuees, and we are thankful to everyone who did so. But now, it’s time to come back!

This long weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, as students prepare to return to school. Wildfire season isn't over yet, so check fire restrictions, watch for smoke and plan your route before heading out. Enjoy it safely. 👉 news.gov.bc.ca/34239

Thank you to everyone who has played a part in keeping people safe.

In an emergency, it takes everyone pulling together. That’s exactly what Summerland did. They’ve shown grit and compassion as they came together, from the initial response, to taking care of people that have been evacuated from their home, to now starting the process of recovery.

@kellyrichmondbc.bsky.socialSep 2, 2026, 12:02 AM

It’s an honour to meet with the Summerland Fire Department to thank them in person for their incredible work. During this very difficult time, we’ve seen how their courage, professionalism and commitment have made a difference. And we’re so grateful.

It was a pleasure to visit Surrey this week to see emergency preparedness in action. People, farms, and businesses will be better protected from periods of high water with the completion of flood mitigation and diking enhancements.

BC is no longer in a state of provincial emergency but we are still dealing with wildfires & everyone should remain prepared. Thank you @BCGovFireInfo, responders, volunteers, emergency management personnel & others who continue to keep people safe & supported throughout BC.
