To wrap up Banned Books Week, I visited bookstores in the 48th District. Amanda at Crow City Books in Auburn shared an important reason not to ban books: "Books can be a lifeline for someone going through a hard time."

Thank you to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Seed Bank, Go Native! Perennials and Limeledge Botanic Garden, and everyone who made this tour possible.

My bill (S7849) to create a native plant seed supply was signed into law. This week, we saw how the native seed supply chain is working in CNY, from harvesting to cleaning. Native plants support pollinators and wildlife and protect water quality, along with many other environmental benefits.

We’re now seeing more book bans than ever. This problem is not going away, and we are not immune in New York. My Freedom to Read Act (S8630) would give schools and educators a clear process and more support when deciding which books are available to students.

The Finger Lakes–Lake Ontario Watershed Protection Alliance works hard to ensure we can continue relying on our lakes for drinking water and recreation, and to support our local economies. I presented the Alliance with a proclamation honoring its dedication to protecting our precious lakes.

For the past 45 years, the Schweinfurth Art Center has created powerful and inspiring experiences for art lovers across Central New York. Congratulations on your Sapphire Anniversary. It was an honor to present a proclamation celebrating this well-deserved milestone.

Got the chance to visit the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Mobile Museum of Tolerance (MMOT) in Auburn. It’s a powerful tool for teaching students to combat hate and to embrace our differences. Thank you to the MMOT and its educators for traveling across the state to share this important message.

Wow, it was a busy day at the New York State Fair. Had the chance to watch the Pride Day flag-raising, visit with Senator Gillibrand, and enjoy a delicious potato from a Cayuga County farm that supplied thousands of pounds of potatoes to the Potato Booth.
