In July, we hosted our AGM, where members, volunteers, partners and staff came together to reflect on what we've achieved for nature over the past year. ๐Ÿฆฌ๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ›๐Ÿฆญ๐Ÿฆ— All of this was captured visually by the team at Think Visually to become one shared picture!

It's fungi season! ๐Ÿ„ The sheer diversity of fungi is really something to behold - from classic fairytale toadstools to gloopy brackets and coral-like structures. And they're certainly putting on a show on our reserves at the moment!

This critter is a 'pseudoscorpion', found at the Blean on a BioBlitz! Pseudoscorpions are much smaller than scorpions, only measuring up to around 8mm in length. They share the classic pincers, but no stinging tail ๐Ÿฆ‚ It really does take all creatures great and small to make a healthy ecosystem. ๐Ÿž๐Ÿฆฌ

๐Ÿ’ก Did you know? Ivy bees are a relatively new arrival to the UK, first recorded here in 2001. They feed exclusively on the nectar of ivy flowers and can be seen in autumn when this plant is in bloom. Although they are solitary bees, there may be thousands of nests in the same area. ๐Ÿ

Ivy bees have been hard at work at Nemo Down! In this video taken by East Kent Downland Warden, Karen, you can see (and hear) them all digging tunnels to lay their eggs. ๐Ÿ”Š

There is just 1 week left to respond to the public consultation for the Draft Kent Mineral Sites Plan 2026. ๐Ÿšจ If you haven't already responded, now's your chance to have a say about the future of Oaken Wood, where 41 hectares of ancient woodland are at risk of being destroyed for quarrying.

Last Friday, the Sharks of Kent team headed to Dover Admiralty Pier for a theory & practical session with 3 highly experienced anglers from the Dover Sea Angling Association.

We're excited to welcome DSAA to the project and are grateful for their support! ๐Ÿฆˆ

Amongst it all are some reminders for us, too: to practice gratitude for the year behind you, to enjoy the fruits of your labour, and to take your time to soften into the new season. โœจ

Across the county and our reserves, signs of autumn can be found everywhere. Berries, fungi, dry flower heads, and slowly browning leaves adorn the hedgerows and countryside...

Wednesday marks the official start of autumn, with the equinox falling at 01:06 in the morning. ๐Ÿ‚ For a short while, day and night will be of near equal length until the evenings start to draw in as we move towards winter...
