And it is this disavowal of vulnerability that forecloses new political formations. Butler and Berlant differently gesture to our vulnerability to the inconvenience of politics & how this is a precondition for community.
Sovereignty is a violent logic, in all its very many different historical forms, always and without exception. Am I missing some important and critical form of sovereignty that can be invoked without the violence of a sovereign power relation? All sovereigns claim an invulnerability to the world.
UPDATE: After hearing from friends in the DMs, we’re gonna make this a cohosted gathering. So after my censored remarks, we’ll hear about people actually doing the work that so many of our institutions pretend to. If your org wants to cohost, DM me.
It is simply horrifying that @ruha9.bsky.social is being silenced, her slides erased - if anyone was ever in any doubt that technologies of racism & violence are being forcefully secured from critique, political resistance, surely this is clear.
I’m in DC scheduled to give this talk today. But the organizers flagged slides in my deck that mention racism, structural gaslighting, New Jim Code and other themes that are off limits in the Land of the Free.
It was great to hear more about the work of @algorhythm.bsky.social at the Socializing Algorithms conference organised by @seyfert.bsky.social
Really fantastic presentation at the Socializing Algorithms conference. @jasmin-p.bsky.social and @emilieksunde.bsky.social present their work on a reflexive aesthetics for generated images. @leverhulmecal.bsky.social
@nannathylstrup.bsky.social & @jasmin-p.bsky.social I am connecting you here because you are kindred spirits! And Jasmin is moving from Melbourne to Aarhus. It’s a archives, arts, AI, museums & aesthetics kind of a kinship ❤️
Keynote as podcast: Louise Amoore @amoorelouise.bsky.social and Jan Groos @futurehistories.bsky.social discuss digital sovereignty in the absence of a sovereign in the age of AI, the resonances between political, corporate and technological logics among other topics.
I should clarify, our experience of Novavax is a double benefit in terms of long covid. Obviously protection from the virus & its immune disregulation effects; & then also to avoid the inflammatory flare we both had from RNA vaccines
The Sanofi (Novavax) is available in these travel clinics across Germany. Over the past 2 years (since UK Pharmadoctor stopped providing in 2024) my brother & I can vouch for the Berlin, Frankfurt & Hamburg branches! Amazing staff, email or call them. We both had long covid & Novavax ❤️ bcrt.de/en/
I’m here for that
Flood the critical zone..
Universities to Microsoft/OpenAI/Anthropic: “please come & undermine all actual thought, writing, language, teaching and creativity that exists here” Mr Frontier AI: “okay, look how easy all this outputting of tokens is, what are those academic types complaining about?”
People who were not present at a (seminar/meeting/workshop) sending me three paragraphs on how wonderful and thought-provoking it was; postgraduate applicants sending detailed analysis of books I didn’t write (not that I mind being Antoinette Rouvroy 😊); a rejection for a paper I didn’t submit..
Journal editors & research funders commonly report a doubling (+) of submissions as LLMs promise to circumvent the difficulty that is writing. Now people seem to be using Copilot to automate email my daily inbox also doubled to around 200 per day. It’s now useless to me. Among the hallucinations:
Still some days to submit your abstract for the AAG 2027 panel on 'Geographies of (mis)aligned AI' organised together with @ayonadatta.bsky.social and @lauraneville.bsky.social. We look forward to reading your work! Full CfP here: www.regionalfutures.org/all-outputs/...
A well-worn example could be found in the question of “just war” or under what conditions political violence is ever “just” or moral. The theological and the technological are historically tightly bound together in logics of just war & continue to be in algorithmic war.
the theologians to consult on moral code. The surprise should not be merely the ascription of agency or consciousness to machine learning (it’s a regime of distraction) but instead the powerful resonance of morality as code with machine code.
