Food banks haven’t always been needed in the UK. Yet our community of food banks now provide millions of emergency food parcels a year. This isn’t right. In ‘A Taste for Change’, our Social Change Advisor asks: how do we build a food bank free future?
Universal Credit doesn't know the price of a milk. Or heating. Or the bus. It doesn't cover the essentials, leaving millions with no option but to turn to a food bank. ✋ It's time we changed this. We're calling for Universal Credit to be set based on actual living costs.
⏰ Just a few days left to support the Morrisons Food Drive! There's still time to donate at Morrisons stores before the collection ends on 20 September. Every donation helps our food bank provide vital support to people facing hunger and hardship. Thank you for your support 💚
The UK government promised to end the need for emergency food. 📣 So we spoke to MPs about how they can act to end hunger. People are turning to food banks due to rising living costs, unaffordable housing, and a lack of support from social security. These are all things that we can fix. 💚
💚 A reminder that the Waitrose Food Drive is running all week until 12 September. Whether it's tinned food, pasta or toiletries, every donation helps people in our community access the support they need. A huge thank you to everyone who has donated already 🛒
It’s #NationalFoodbankDay today but 26 years ago there was no food bank day because there were no food banks.
Now, because of the cost of living and our poor social security system there’s more than 1,400.
Universal Credit does not cover the cost of essentials. That means PIP has become part of the UK's anti-poverty infrastructure. What does that mean for security reforms and how do we build a sustainable system that better protects disabled people from hardship? 👇 www.trussell.org.uk/news-and-res...
⏰ One week left to have your say.
Universal Credit has never been linked to the cost of essentials. No independent evidence. No regular review. Just a political decision.

Friendly reminder: hunger in the UK is an income problem not a food problem.
We're calling on our new PM to take urgent action.
Food banks should not be a part of young people's futures.

❗ Young people can't afford to live. Our research found that a third of 16-25-year-olds cut back on food in the last 3 months. Young people should be thinking about next steps in their lives, like moving out or learning to drive, but they can barely even afford to get by.
Universal Credit doesn't cover life's essentials. And millions of people are being forced to turn to a food bank as a result. How much money people have to live on should reflect real costs, not party-political interests. ❗It's time to take the politics out of Universal Credit.

everyone affording the essentials = more stability, more community, more people thriving ✨
🚨 JUST IN: a record number of people are going without essentials, like food and bills. New research by @jrf-uk.bsky.social reveals that 7.4 million households have gone without at least one essential in 6 months. This is a stark reminder that the cost of living crisis is far from over.
Disabled people are already more likely to need a food bank, and a fifth have had to turn to a food bank in just the last month.
Things don't have to be this way. Together we can urge the government to rethink this plan.
