@wendygarland.bsky.social2nd grade book tasting was so different from 5th! 10 out of 17 students walked away with books to checkout! They also didn't seem to "tire" of the 2 minute timer. Much more energy and focused excitement with this grade.
@wendygarland.bsky.social5th grade book tasting was interesting. I chose chapter books that don't go anywhere but have potential (or so I thought). A small handful walked away with a book. When dismissed for checkout they FLOODED the graphic novel section. Trying to expand horizons.

@wendygarland.bsky.social2nd graders were exploring our biographies and a student commented “Simone is so beautiful.” Response “She’s too old for you.” My response “And she’s married. Sorry!” Glad we got that squared away! 🤣

@wendygarland.bsky.socialThe activity: Ss get a pile of books and a red/green card. They need to make a pile that can be checked out and a pile that can't. We are practicing choosing "2 of a kind" and leaving some behind for others to read. (Ss will grab a whole series, leaving none for the next reader)

@wendygarland.bsky.socialNow that students can take up to 5 books home, we are practicing being respectful and making selections that include “2 of a kind” so there are some for others.
