My children & I built this 100 % accurate #LEGO reconstruction, showing what the funerary column would have looked like. 😉
Left: Igel Column near Trier for comparision.
Monumental Roman inscription, found next to a Roman villa near Alt-Inden (D). Sabi(na) was one of the heirs (H = heredes) of the deceased, who according to testament (T) had to have the funerary column erected, to which this inscription presumably belonged. 🏺 #Archaeology, #EpigraphyTuesday
Danke für den Tipp!
Da hast Du natürlich Recht Christian. Eine Blickrichtung nach Himmelsrichtung gibt es nur bei Profilen. 👍
For decades, archaeologists have used north arrows 🧭on their excavation photos 📷.
Is there a digital alternative? Does anyone have any experience of determining the direction in which a photo was taken using a digital camera’s metadata (EXIF)? 🤔

Danke, wirklich ein Stück archäologische Forschungsgeschichte!
Great example for historic human-nature interaction creating landscape resilience, which we are missing nowadays.
It is astonishing how often, throughout history and across so many different cultures, death and sleep have been symbolically linked.
Truely amazing find. Wood was extremly important in the Mesolithic. It was probably more a Wood than a Stone Age. 😉
Villena, Vix, Albacete... Maybe we should consider whether museum exhibitions are the best place to protect priceless finds 🏺. Displaying replicas is also an option.

My new favourite excavation tool! Hess Metalworks were so kind to hand-forge some of these leaf trowels (Stuckateuereisen) for us. Far better than the floppy stuff from the hardware store.😍

In 2009 we made a whole calendar, "ArchäoÖrtchen", with toilets on excavations 🏺. Two of my favourites below: The flooded Wolkenwehe 2007 excavation by @uni-kiel.de and Gala Abu Ahmed, Sudan in 2008 with @unicologne.bsky.social.
Danke! Ich freue mich auf den Autausch! 🙂
Hi,👋 i'm an archaeologist based in Germany and working on the prehistory of Central Europe. I would really appreciate beeing added to your starter pack. Thanks! 🙂
To highlight from my POV: The hobby archaeologist stopped digging after he found several coins using a metal detector & called the Office for #Archaeology. That's why the hoard could be excavated properly. 👍
Great GIS study on neolithic and bronze age burial mounds 🏺as markers of prehistoric paths. 👍
Instantly Ulli Lusts @ullilust.literatur.social.ap.brid.gy graphic novel "Early Man was a Woman" (Die Frau als Mensch) springs to mind.

Yes, it’s been a great collaboration with BoCAS. I’m very grateful for your expertise! 👍 btw: DNA results are still pending.
