Three years on from the tragedy of October 7th it is tragic to see the conflict continue to take the lives of innocent people. We must work together to build a real peace for Israelis and Palestinians.

Just another gimmick from a party with no credibility on defence. £10bn wouldn't even touch the sides for a complete UK-wide 'Iron Dome'.

The Tories need to review their dodgy sums or be honest about which parts of the country their Patchwork Dome wouldn’t cover.

It’s not been fully spotted but to pay for 50,000 extra prison places the Conservatives have said they would cut foreign aid to £1bn a year, or 0.03% of GDP, a 90% cut. This would not even cover UN and World Bank contributions.

Perhaps we're talking at cross purposes. Whatever the cause of these breaches, we should have secure military bases on British soil. I am asking the govt to act on this which is their job.

@jamesmaccleary.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 12:17 PM

But we have had a series of breaches including bases where there are no US assets. Unless we are saying that we will cease operations overseas altogether then these threats will continue so base security is important and clearly there are issues.

@jamesmaccleary.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 12:09 PM

That's not really the point I'm making here. We should be able to provide security at our own bases for our personnel, aircraft and those of our allies as required. What those bases are used for is a different question.

@jamesmaccleary.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 11:56 AM

If it was just another Trump tantrum we'd know about it - he would have made sure of that. No one is denying that there is some sort of security threat or that we have seen a series of breaches at UK bases so it points to a more serious issue in my view.

It appears that the US is withdrawing these planes because they do not believe they are safe on a UK airbase.

That is a major concern following the breach at RAF Brize Norton in June. The Defence Secretary and the govt need to get a grip on this issue.

It's not good enough for the Greens to try to brush this off. Fanning the flames of division makes them no better than Farage.

I've worked locally with Green cllrs who will be appalled. I'm sure some will be considering if they can remain in the Green Party.

The motion passed at Green Party Conf' actively undermines a 2-state solution, and does not address the rising threats of Islamophobia and Antisemitism here in the UK. This is a divisive motion that pours fuel on the fire of tensions in the UK, and will leave many British Jews feeling less safe.

Great to join Helena Dollimore, MP for Hastings, and Katy Bourne, Sussex PCC to record BBC South East Politics today. We discussed the increase in shoplifting, the need to reform the water industry and campaigns for community pubs. It'll be broadcast this Sunday morning if you fancy a watch.

Incredible how little attention this has got. Masked men come to Dover in a planned action and block our nation's busiest port.

None were detained. Good job they weren't pensioners holding signs about Palestine or climate change activists or they'd be in court by now!

Great to join the @libdems.org.uk team in Uckfield today to support Tim Murray who is standing in the by-election.

It will be between Tim and the Reform Party candidate. So many residents were saying that they are backing Tim and the @libdems.org.uk to win.

"Drill baby drill' say the Tories while Europe burns. A natural disaster on our doorstep.

The climate emergency means every summer will have intense heat leading to devastating fires.

It's time to speed up our transition to renewables, not slow it down.
