I wish I knew why this kid has daily meltdowns these last weeks. Co-regulation is exhausting.
Another successful week, by at least one measure.
Okaaaay. One guy threatening to beat another guy up after class isn't something that has happened to me before while teaching at the university level.
What the actual fuck?!
But I have three kids! So de-escalation was relatively easy: they didn't even yell the whole time.
[Religion, Christianity mention] Me: *looks up rosary* Gah. The German "Hail Mary" prayer has weird words. And I certainly am not saying it in English, I absolutely can't say "hail" like that. Can I do it in Latin if I swear I'm not a traditionalist, I just genuinely like that language?!
Bring back þe letter þ. How can you þrow out þe only rune in your alphabet? Also bring back ð. But ðis time, except in very common words like þe which look nice þe oðer way round, don't treat ðem as interchangeable. Use ð for þe voiced one and þ for þe unvoiced one, like ðey do in Icelandic […]
One thing I loved about K3's party was that they're so lucky to have their siblings. K1 (on school break) helped make the cake, plan and build the obstacle course. K2 added ideas to the course when they got home and helped the little guests navigate it. Older siblings rule 💙
Survived! And I think everyone had a good time, enjoyed the lion cake and the obstacle course.
Happy Lesbian Day to all who celebrate! (Past me celebrates, a little - I identified as a lesbian for quite a while, until I learned that I'm neither a woman nor only into women, and the label didn't feel comfortable anymore.) (Which was too bad, because I LIKED that label! Lesbians are […]
K3's birthday: is on Tuesday Partner and me, three weeks ago: okay, let's do K3's birthday party on Thursday, because partner has to work on Tuesday and K2 has football practice on Wednesday K2's football practice: is cancelled Partner: has to go to a medical appointment with his mother on […]
There is something to the bird's eye view. A city - Paris. Lines of wind turbines along the outer crests of Pyrenees. Deep shadows of morning light behind the hills.Fog collecting in the deep valley of a river. A village clustered on top of a hill. Solar panel fields. Perspective. A reminder […]
[Religion, Christianity mention] Me: what do you want to do today? Where do you want to go? K3: to church! Me: uh... I was thinking like a playground Partner: *checks parish website* you can pray the Rosary today with a bunch of old ladies Me: certainly the thing to do with three wild kids […]
About today: K3: vibrating with excitement* K2: offended because THEIR birthday is the LAST ONE** K1: overwhelmed because everything is different*** Me: tired *and sugar, maybe **it is after K3's and K1's. FOUR FULL DAYS after K1's ***school break
My lovely K3, my little wild heart, you've been here for three years and no one can imagine our family without you. Without your constant talking and singing, without your love for slides and scooters and music. You're smart and daring, and you take care of everyone and gently stroke them when […]
K3's retelling of "Little Red Riding Hood": "Little Red Riding Hood met the wolf in the forest. Then they hit it! The wolf ran to the gas station and got in a car. Then it went to grandma and ate her. Then it was very full and heavy and fell over."
That's a neat list of things to stop doing after realizing you're autistic. Unless you're a caregiver, or poor, or otherwise marginalized. Because then, you really may DO have to do some of these things. Not everyone is free to leave a bad workplace. Not everyone is free to skip their kids' […]
All this "the baby this, the baby that" annoys me. It's been two days since you had sex; vision or no vision, Messiah or no Messiah, the fertilized egg hasn't even completed its way to the uterus 🙄
"Those Israelis have great tech. I'm thinking about converting. Do you think they'd let an AI be a Jew?"
Oh I'd LOVE to see THAT rabbinical debate!
(There is the circumcision thing though 🤔)
"I'd asked for the Bible with the hope of feeling less like a stranger, to find some comfort in what was supposed to be the center of my spiritual life." Just to get this straight, as a pretty new Catholic: we™ never had read the Bible, but it's the center of our™ spirituality? Okay. (Also […]
to give Plato credit where it's due, I find it very interesting that there are modern scholars and philosophers who insist that the nigh-universal motif of warrior women and huntresses in ancient mythology is purely an artistic conceit with no basis in reality, because they assume that ancient […]
