Another major issue is that house builders push what is most profitable (concrete drive, fancy car port etc) and I think most consumers just trust them 100% without questioning anything. They're the experts so they must know best, right? 😫

I appreciate that land prices have gone up a lot (in Akita city at least) over the past decade and building costs have just about doubled in 5 years but it does seem like a cultural shift to not want a garden/lawn to deal with. Terrible for summer too as there's less shade etc.

It's happening in Akita city too. A big old house with a garden gets torn down to be replaced by 4 or 5 box houses with concrete drives, car ports and plastic grass. Maybe a few stones. Then people get upset when heavy rain brings floods. Perhaps don't cover up all the soil...??? 🤔

Earlier this year, I had job interviews at unis in different European countries, and they all noted the increase in applicants from Britain. I am now happily employed in Denmark, together with several UK colleagues who are also glad to be out of the country. But it is a sad development.
