In Tenerife, whales and dolphins are still being bred to create the next generation of performers.

Rob visited Loro Parque and Aqualand to see the reality first-hand.

This week we celebrated #NationalPoetryDay (1st October). So, to add to your relaxing Sunday vibes, here are some lovely lines from our resident poet, Matt Harvey all about the true value of whales. Thanks to the amazing people at Hot Poets. Sit back with a tea and dream about whales in the sea👇

Whales and dolphins are still being bred in captivity. This Orcatober, we’re exposing why this cruel practice must end. Let’s make this generation of captive whales and dolphins the last. 📷Rob Lott/WDC

Deep in the Amazon, local communities are helping to build a better future for river dolphins.

Our education lead, Ali, went to see how your support is helping Natütama inspire the next generation to love and protect their local wildlife. 👉https://ow.ly/aF2q50ZQ7qA

Iceland’s 2026 fin whaling season has now ended with 93 whales killed but with nobody to sell them to. A perverse slaughter, but could these poor whales be the last to die at the hands of Icelandic whalers? 🤞👇

Norway’s 2026 whale hunt season has come to an end. Here are two key figures: 418 minke whales killed (but this does not include the unborn calves that die when pregnant females are shot). 1% of Norwegians regularly eat whale meat. This is a pointless slaughter. 👇

Plastic pollution is a real threat to the ocean, but could plastic bottles actually help save dolphins from fishing nets? Find out more about the research in this Discover Wildlife article below 👇

Good news. 😊The pressure is working - Iceland's government announces plan for a bill to end whale hunts. But how long will it be before the cruelty stops? 👇

Despite their name, pygmy killer whales are actually dolphins! 🐬 Rare & elusive, they live in deep, warm waters & feed on fish & squid. Sadly, they face threats including fishing gear, hunting, pollution & underwater noise. More here: https://ow.ly/M3OG50Zy1cQ

Imagine a giant hammer pounding nearby while you’re trying to communicate.

For whales, dolphins and porpoises, human-made noise can drown out the sounds they rely on to survive.
But a quieter future is possible.

What a mess. Two of the 30 captive belugas held by Marineland Ontario have already died after the pair were recently transported to the US. 😞 We need more support for wild sea sanctuaries as a pathway to ending this cruelty. 👇

WDC's Lottie attended #Arendalsuka, Norway's largest political gathering, to discuss whaling 💔

Norway is getting away with (whale) murder. Our new report reveals new findings from Norway's own official whaling data and asks why Norway has largely escaped the scrutiny faced by other whaling nations. 1/2
