Published in #MNRAS: "AGC 322753: A dark galaxy candidate detected by ALFALFA and FASHI", Monaci et al. This is Fig. 2: please visit academic.oup.com/mnras/advanc... to read the paper. @royalastrosoc.bsky.social @academic.oup.com

Colour image made by combining the g, r, and i filters from Legacy Surveys. The dashed circle represents the 3.5 arcmin beam of the Arecibo radio telescope, while the solid circle represents the 3 arcmin beam of FAST. The crosses indicate the beam centroids. The white square highlights the position of the claimed OC by C.-P. Zhang et al. (2024) for this FASHI source. The white hexagon highlights the background galaxy (SDSS J224559 + 335532). The intersection between the two beams is the most probable location for the OC of AGC 322753, highlighted in the red inset. Here, marked sources with the short horizontal and vertical lines are foreground stars confirmed with Gaia DR3, and the galaxy marked by a white arrow is in the background. See the text.

Published in #GJI Geophysical Journal International: "Local seismic shear-wave splitting characteristics at the source region of 2015 Nepal Gorkha MW 7.8 earthquake in the middle Himalayan orogenic belt", Cao & Chang. Read the paper at academic.oup.com/gji/article/... . @royalastrosoc.bsky.social

Tectonic background and stations at source region. Red and green triangles represent broad-band and short-period seismometers, respectively. Blue circles are the epicentres of aftershocks (Y. Kuang & J. Li 2025). Yellow stars on the left and right sides give the location of MW 7.8 main shock and MW 7.3 aftershock, respectively. Black lines show the main tectonics: STD—Southern Tibetan Detachment System, MCT—Main Central Thrust fault, MBT—Main Boundary Thrust fault, MFT—Main Frontal Thrust fault, TYCR—Tangra Yum Co Rift, KCF—Kung Co Rift. NR, MR, and SR are different regions in the north-south direction, respectively. The focal mechanisms are the results of the Gorkha earthquake and some aftershocks (X. Wang et al. 2017; L. Bai et al. 2019; M.M. Mendoza et al. 2019). The lower left inset shows the movement of the Indian plate, and blue arrows give the GPS velocity field reference to the Eurasian plate (M. Wang & Z. Shen 2020).

Published in #RASTI RAS Techniques & Instruments: "Any colour you like: the diverse chromaticities of white dwarfs", Hollands et al. This is Fig. 9: please visit academic.oup.com/rasti/articl... to read the paper. @royalastrosoc.bsky.social

Chromaticity distribution (top) for all white dwarfs within 20 pc of the Sun (points). Our cuts to exclude objects with non-blackbody colours is shown by the grey dashed lines. The correlated colour temperature distribution for the 20 pc sample (excluding three outliers) is shown in the bottom panel, where the colour gradient under the histogram represents the sRGB colour at each given colour temperature, and the panel background is filled with the colour corresponding to the median (#F9F5FF).

Published in #RASTI RAS Techniques & Instruments: "pyEDITH: the coronagraphic exposure time calculator for the Habitable Worlds Observatory", Alei et al. This is Fig. 1: please visit academic.oup.com/rasti/articl... to read the paper. @royalastrosoc.bsky.social @academic.oup.com

Simplified workflow of pyEDITH. Inputs can be provided via command-line configuration files or Python API. Variables are organized into three independent classes (astrophysical scene, observation parameters, observatory configuration) that communicate through a mediator (shaded region). The observatory class is subdivided into telescope, coronagraph, and detector components, typically loaded from standardized HWO files. After validation, the exposure time calculator computes observation times, signal-to-noise ratios, and noise count rates.

🪐 Jupiter's colour sits in one cloud layer

Using six years of telescope images, Oxford researchers found two layers, a main cloud and a haze, explain what we see. The colour comes from the main cloud. Mapped from Earth.
