Scotsman in exile. Misanthropic, introverted, mildly opinionated pop culture sponge. Authority/go-to guy on Marvel’s Jack Of Hearts & CapWolf, so I’m told. Militantly anti-slabbing.
@cactusakic.bsky.socialAnother excellent @exit6filmfest.bsky.social showcase screening last night, this one horror-themed, with 11 short films. 3 I had seen before, 8 brand new to me, including these 4.

@cactusakic.bsky.socialA by-the-numbers “Dad” war movie, somewhat elevated by Andrew Scott.
A fantastic doc on the making of a terrible film.
A truly charming romcom with my favourite city seeping into every frame.
And an utter turd.

@cactusakic.bsky.socialI do. Hold on…
@cactusakic.bsky.socialWe’ve got another recent one on our slate, Finding Emily, which also got some sniffy reviews and also looks potentially up your street. Will feed back after we watch it. @pinkalpacas.bsky.social is laid up recovering for the next two weeks, so we’re looking to put a significant dent in our backlog!
@cactusakic.bsky.socialRead a lot of sniffy reviews for One Night Only, but @pinkalpacas.bsky.social and I just watched it (admittedly, after a very long, stressful, draining day and with pretty low expectations) and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Several laughs. @comicfoil.bsky.social , you, in particular, would dig this

@cactusakic.bsky.socialSwear to god, we had that same carpet. And that same coffee table. And that same sofa. And that same unit, with a record player on it. And I had that same haircut. If not for the fact that I was a bit chubbier than you are here, I reckon I could fool my mum into buying this is a family photo.

@cactusakic.bsky.socialQuality puns aside, I worked for Jessops, very briefly, around the time of the London Olympics. 3-4 months that summer. Absolutely vile working environment. THE most toxic place I’ve ever worked, by a long way. Genuinely dreaded going to work each day. The sooner it dies, the better.
@cactusakic.bsky.socialA couple of excellent shorts from the equally excellent @exit6filmfest.bsky.social and then a childhood comfort comedy classic and Jack Reacher essentially being The Punisher for 100 mins.
