FINAL day of the Week Without Driving Challenge — and the biggest issue has been figuring out how to take care of my doggo 🐶 Detroit, this video is for you! ❤️

Now discussion moves to the Public Safety Committee. Our next meeting is October 20.

Our motion to assert City Council oversight over ALPRs passed 10-4. When we don’t even have our own internal policies written down yet, we shouldn’t be rushing to install this technology - especially when there are serious questions about privacy, surveillance, & how this data could be used.

I’m bussin, and so are the majority of people who take transit in LA 🚎

This represents one of the biggest traffic safety advancements in LA this century. For people who don’t drive, navigating LA can mean crossing dangerous streets, biking next to speeding cars, or waiting for a bus in the dark. That’s the reality I want to better understand this week. Follow along!

Once cameras launch, drivers going 11+ mph over the limit will get a warning by mail for 60 days. After that, violations carry a fine starting at $50. Importantly, this data cannot be shared with *any* local, state, or federal law enforcement unless mandated by a court order.

Traffic violence kills more people in LA than homicides. 1 in 5 traffic deaths are caused by speeding. If we're serious about saving lives, we need to use every tool available: 🚗Lower Speed Limits 🐫 Speed Humps 🛣️ Lane Reductions And soon, automated speed safety cameras operated by LADOT.

Nearly 1 in 3 Angelenos don’t drive a car. Millions of people across LA live their lives everyday without driving. They figure it out because they have to. But when policymakers spend most of their time moving around LA in cars, it’s easy to lose sight of what the city feels like for everyone else

Today, I started the Week Without Driving Challenge, where I’ll spend a full week getting around Los Angeles as a City Councilmember without driving my car. Why would I do such a thing? Will I succeed? Read below (and follow along) to find out.

We rode LA’s 1st bike-powered street sweeper, and it really works! 🚲 We collected over 120lbs of trash/debris, plus we worked with @ladotofficial to repair 4 downed bollards. Follow us all week as we try to take on the Week Witbout Driving Challenge!

There are still a few more steps until this becomes law. Next, the City Attorney will draft the ordinance and city departments will develop the Know Your Rights training framework, before returning to Council for a final vote.

Thank you to the fast food workers who came to City Hall, shared their experiences, and advocated for these long-overdue protections. If we want an economy that works for working people, we have to make sure workers are treated fairly on the job.

@hugoforcd13.bsky.socialSep 8, 2026, 11:26 PM

With 150% annual turnover, companies are constantly cycling through new, low-wage workers who may not know what they’re legally entitled to. The less workers know, the easier it is for employers to violate those rights without consequences. That’s the cycle we need to break.

@hugoforcd13.bsky.socialSep 8, 2026, 11:26 PM

Labor laws only work when workers know their rights. Right now, 88% of fast food workers don’t. Our motion directs City departments to report back on a framework for Know-Your-Rights trainings for fast food workers.

@hugoforcd13.bsky.socialSep 8, 2026, 11:25 PM

In a 10-2 vote, Council approved our Fast Food Fair Work Week motion. This means expanding LA’s existing protections for retail workers to also include fast food workers: ✅ 2 weeks advance notice of schedules ✅ Extra pay for last-minute changes ✅ Guaranteed between shifts.

Vote count showing 10 yes votes, 2 no votes, and 3 absences. Park and Lee voted no, while Price, Blumenfield, and Rodriguez were absent.
@hugoforcd13.bsky.socialSep 8, 2026, 11:23 PM

91% rate of labor violations. 150% annual turnover. 16% avg income lost to wage theft. Fast food is one of the most toxic industries in our economy, with corporate giants making record profits off the backs of working people. Today marked a big step toward changing that in LA (🧵)
