Some news: NPR is planning to discuss a reorganization of its teams next week with an emphasis on subject areas of news, music and “lifestyle.” On Friday, Nadine Zylstra, NPR’s content chief, sent this memo saying the reorg would not result in job losses.

David Ellison also said during the town hall interview with Anderson Cooper that he supported CNN's efforts to restore access to covering President Trump. "Of course."

NEWS: During an on-stage town hall meeting this afternoon, Skydance C.E.O. David Ellison and co-C.E.O. Ynon Kreiz were interviewed by Anderson Cooper. During the interview, Ellison pledged not to interfere with CNN. "We believe in complete editorial independence...we trust Mark, we trust the team."

NEWS: Mark Thompson, the CEO of CNN, addresses reports of his future at Skydance on the network's 9 a.m. call (1/2) "I don’t want to add to the quite extensive speculation about me and my role at CNN and in the new company except really, like a cracked record, repeating what I’ve said in the past.”

Mark said that Paramount has not explained to him how they intend to run CNN.

He also had a note of caution for employees who assumed a merger with CBS News was in the offing. "Don't jump to conclusions that we become one with CBS News." He said there were "arguments for and against," adding that a lot still needed to be worked out.

As far as the merger with Paramount goes — Mark told CNN employees that he was "fully committed to CNN," that he was still "enthusiastic" about the network. "I want to stay if Paramount finds me useful," he said.

Mark also told CNN staff that David Zaslav, the chief executive of Warner Bros. Discovery, called to tell him the company had to fight the press ban and asked him what he needed to do that.

Mark added that CNN was "not in this fight alone," adding that there had been overwhelming support from many other journalism organizations, including traditionally right-of-center media organizations.

“…and in many ways the world in terms of the right to hold any administration or government to account.”

Regarding the press ban: “This is a fight. It’s not a fight against the President. It’s not a fight against the White House. It’s fight FOR our fundamental rights as both journalists and citizens. And we are fighting on behalf of the American people…”
