For the folks that don't like CSP: there's a new header in town to block/allow connections.

Connection-Allowlist: ("https://api.example.com/*" response-origin)

I've never had to build sites in languages that are read right-to-left.

If you do, here's how to mix left-to-right and right-to-left text with `dir=auto`, `bdi`, and the `U+200E` / `U+200F` Unicode characters.

Be honest, have you ever used the `touch-action` CSS property? If not, here's what it's about. 👇

.button {   touch-action: manipulation; }

I just redeployed my site because Vale reminded me that I'm using a relic of the past. Today I learned that `initial-scale` isn't needed to prevent iOS from doing weird zoom things anymore.

https://vale.rocks/micro...

Snippet: <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0"> with a highlight telling the "initial-scale" isn't needed anymore.

It's been a pain that we couldn't pass values into SVGs since I started doing webdev. But there's some progress with SVG link params. Here's a practical example.

Three different ways to use link parameters

Did you ever wonder why you need to await twice to get a `fetch` response body?

Today I learned that the first `await` waits for the response headers. The second one then waits for the body.

You learn something new every day.

https://blog.gaborkoos.c...

const response = await fetch(url) // awaits the headers const body = await response.json() // awaits the body

After a short break, the new Web Weekly is about to hit all inboxes. 🫣

This time, it includes `text-box` going Baseline, the two phases of `fetch`, linked parameters in SVG, and the new `Connection-Allowlist` header.

Enjoy!

After a decade at Cloudinary, I am looking work. I'm a web developer who's done a lot of devrel, too. I'm good at the front of the front end, great at browsers and standards and deeply understanding and explaining technical topics, and the stem of my T-shaped skills is: "images, on the internet".

The HTML `head` is often forgotten and barely touched. Manuel has some good stuff to include in his 2026 boilerplate.

I run @piccalil.li and having publications like CSS-Tricks around is really important. We all help and challenge each other and the result is a better ecosystem for everyone else.

That's the whole point!

I really hope this situation gets resolved, or CSS-Tricks gets a new owner that cares.
