The churchyard of the old parish church at Chiswick and the adjacent burial ground are best known for the graves of Hogarth and Whistler. But they include monuments to figures of local and national importance too. The tour is led by Vic Soc trustee + local resident Henry Sainty.

This pavilion was a theatre.
Here’s another kiosk. They house shops.
Owen Jones ‘ Grammar of Ornament’ influenced the design of the railings and detail on the pier. Islamic design lends itself to the cast iron process.
There were 106 seaside resorts in the Victorian period. Here’s Llandudno Pier. The kiosks were designed by Charles Driver.
Day 2: Vic Soc AGM. Panoramic view of the pastel seafront houses of St George’s Crescent with North Shore beach and Ormes Bay, Llandudno.
Today our members and trustees are setting off to the #VicSocAgm. We are in Wales this year, in Llandudno. It is one of the great Victorian towns. We celebrate the remarkable Victorian and Edwardian heritage with a 3-day programme of talks, walks and visits.

The National Trust for Scotland took on the ownership of the tearooms in 2024 with the aim of ensuring their long-term security. An intervention needs to be made to stop the potential loss of another precious piece of Rennie Mackintosh's legacy to Glasgow which a fire next door could bring about.
The Tearooms were opened by Miss Cranston in 1903 and were designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh working in with his wife, Margaret Macdonald. With Sauchiehall Street, Mackintosh was given responsibility not just for the interior design and furniture, but for the whole internal layout and exterior.
We echo our friends at the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society's deep concern at this latest development that threatens one of the Scottish architect's works and one of his amazing collaborations with his wife, Margaret Macdonald. tinyurl.com/4npbfap6
We're reaching for our smelling salts. A new vape shop will be opening on Sauchiehall St next to the world-renowned Mackintosh Tearooms. This follows the devastating fire at Union St earlier this year caused by a vape shop that destroyed a Victorian building + took the Station out of use for days 🧵
Join us for this illustrated talk based on original research. Emily Gee will tell the story of the campaigns to house a new generation of urban working women, the specialised design of the buildings and the women whose lives were transformed by this architectural movement.
