If it they do have feelings, I'm not remotely interested in addressing it until we have stopped boiling crustaceans alive, killing dolphin pods, trawling the sea bed and basically abusing known sentient beings we share the planet with. Join the back of the line.

The Anthropic resignation news today, I hate to say, makes The Emptying - a dystopian book by me and @mimithebo.bsky.social - increasingly pertinent. I only hope that while our real future contains the same chords of hope, it is not first forced to walk the same existential tightrope.

In many places it's illegal to burn money and flags, but totally fine if you want to incinerate the planet to make a cat look like Picasso or design top trump cards of yourself as superheroes. We do not deserve the 'sapiens' part.
