For the love of Kirby please do not listen to anyone who says you should be doing two finished pages of comic book art a day. It is a recipe for burnout, misery, and eventually, the destruction of your career. Industry standard is one a day, five a week. Period. Got it?

Better artists than you with better work ethic than you have died penniless and screaming after a lifetime of good work. Don't Die For Comics.

Comics are SOOOO much labor and SOOOO HARD on your body and your medical bills frok over work can be Much MUCH MUCH MUCH more than you will be paid for any page rate. And for WHAT for WHAT

Ease of access to healthcare in the US varies from state to state, and mine happens to be very bad, as I've experienced my entire life. It's no coincidence that my comic is about terrible doctors.

While I wasn't speaking about making a living from my comics - I've always been on many meds, risk losing medicaid in 2027, have been denied for disability 3 times over 4 years (after they diagnosed me with ASD), and was also denied for support while being the caretaker for my dying mother.

The amount of work put into comics in comparison to the reward (not just monetary, also talking about engagement and personal fulfilment) doesn't balance out.

@missfester.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 5:06 AM

Oh, I wasn't making a living on my comic, hahaha. This isn't about making money from it, just about the experience of making webcomics has been. It was never a reliable source of income for me, I've only gotten some tips/Patreon subs. Yeah, it's severe burnout from 8 years non-stop.

I wish comics were more respected. I'm on the verge of moving my story as a webcomic and finishing it as writing/illustrations. It's much less lost than what webcomics take, it feels so hard to keep peoples' attentions these days. Most of the comics I've followed have also just ceased to exist.

Final lineup for a costume design class with @lesliedraws.bsky.social at @underpaintacademy.bsky.social! I can't recommend this teacher enough.

A digital illustration of three characters set against a red cutout background and standing in a paper-toned environment. The first character, on the left, is a fat hairy bat drag king in a purple suit with black pinstripes, a top like a corset, and wrapped in a fur ruff. The second character, in the middle, is a ghostly little man with eerie features a heavyset brow, and hair only on the back and sides of his head alongside a thick mustache in a purple vest and plum pants holding a revolver. The third character, on the right, is a big hairy fat man with a prosthetic leg and cane: he has a tool bag attached to a belt that holds up a work apron, and wears a tank top, pants held up by suspenders, and work boots; on his visible arm, left arm holding the cane, is a pinup tattoo of a fat femme in a one-piece bathing suit and pumps.

The stories I've heard from contracted creators are the stuff of nightmares. It really made me step back from the goal of being a contracted creator. I put myself through half the workload they do on the same schedule and it made me resent art. Being legally bound to it sounds like torture.

I read a webcomic back in the 2010's where the creator ended his own life, and that always stuck with me hard, being someone who struggles with ideation. I've thought about them since I've started making webcomics seriously.

Does "creator breakdown," where a webcomic creator loses their ambition due to overwork/depression & anxiety/horrible life event(s)/losing money/severe burnout just happen to most webcomic creators? I wish I didn't have the OCD driving me to reformat. I vowed I wasn't going to redo stuff, then did.

I think most people wrote off twitter because it's owned by a literal nazi and is teeming with AI child porn, not because it's hard to maintain an audience.

Anyone happen to have invested in Webtoon stock since they went IPO? Here you go!

It's #WIPWednesday what are you guys working on? I'm back at it working on updating my old pages for the print of vol 2. I'm trying to keep the updates to a minimum. Making minor changes to faces and colors.

Ilworld page 109. Rahab is leaving and says if they cross paths again, maybe the main character will have remembered her name. Old page 109
