Thanks to rapporteur @chahim.bsky.social and my fellow shadows for a swift result. It shows we can move fast if the political will is there.

We hope the Member States show the same spirit of urgency.

The Centre will also pursue sustainable and responsible sourcing, with social and environmental standards in all its activities And also secured a stakeholder forum to keep an eye, a transparency that contrasts with the CRM Board. Not a detail: it may manage up to €8 billion (depending on the MFF)

@saramatthieu.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 8:45 AM

The CRM Centre will deliver: - strategic stockpiling - joint procurement and off-take - financial support along the full value chain (incl. substitution, efficiency, recycling) - an intelligence hub for market transparency, the heart of safeguarding our energy transition and democratic sovereignty

@saramatthieu.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 8:45 AM

We need to anticipate emergencies on a continental scale. National responses are fragmented, insufficient and too small-scale. It's finally time to pool our knowledge, intelligence, resources and decision-making powers at European level.

Our companies were not ready for geopolitical blackmail. Whether it's the Chinese juggernaut, American blackmail or other authoritarian regimes: we can't allow this to continue.

Six months ago, China restricted exports of rare earths used in magnets for cars, F35 fighter jets and ballistic missiles, a result of the US president's self-defeating trade war. Within weeks, even European manufacturers panicked and threatened to relocate production to China (!).

@saramatthieu.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 8:45 AM

And no, I'm not talking about the French-German non-paper or Šefčovič's confrontation with China. Those are mere words. I'm talking about hard legislative action: the launch of the Critical Raw Materials Centre, a new agency we just voted on in the EU Parliament's industry committee.

@saramatthieu.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 8:45 AM

Heads up! Today marks the first step towards a stronger Europe in the face of critical raw material constraints, especially when caused by the likes of China (but not exclusively). 🧵

@saramatthieu.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 2:12 PM

- Speed without sacrificing nature (Natura 2000 excluded, more resources for administrations) - Social conditions and real enforcement - Circular economy on the same footing, with a focus on electrification throughout And more! I'm confident we can pull together a strong mandate very soon. 💪

@saramatthieu.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 2:12 PM

Instead, we believe the IAA should be patched up to ensure that: - Buy European and buy low-carbon always go together (incl. steel) - Lead markets create demand that EU companies can realistically deliver - All six FDI conditions become mandatory, so foreign investment brings real value to Europe

Dieselgate, the second China Shock: they freeze whenever bold change is needed, and take cheap shots at Greens to hide their weakness. They also fear global shareholders and so-called trade partners, who themselves pursue home-country origin criteria.

Germany alone is bleeding 15,000 factory jobs a month. Their approach is a recipe for disaster. Meanwhile their parties bleed voters to the far right in record numbers: they offer nothing beyond a status quo that fails workers. www.ad-hoc-news.de/boerse/news/...

@saramatthieu.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 2:12 PM

Our starting position stands in stark contrast with that of our German and Swedish colleagues in the EPP, who tabled a rejection amendment. It once again makes clear that our conservative colleagues are not on the side of European industry and workers.

@saramatthieu.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 2:12 PM

In a nutshell: we want to ensure the IAA is not just the paper tiger the Commission proposed, but actually delivers on its promises to build a world-class manufacturing industry for green steel, batteries and electric vehicles in Europe.

@saramatthieu.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 2:12 PM

The action on the Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA) is ramping up! @annacavazzini.bsky.social, @davidcormand.bsky.social and I tabled our Greens/EFA amendments today. 🧵

@saramatthieu.bsky.socialSep 30, 2026, 7:57 AM

Alweer jobverlies. (4/5)

@saramatthieu.bsky.socialSep 30, 2026, 7:57 AM

@saramatthieu.bsky.socialSep 30, 2026, 7:57 AM
